Hi I am newbie to the forum (and a girl) - I have a 2004 commodore exec vy - it has done 225000 ks and I dont know if the cam has been changed before - I have been told to ask if it is an interference motor or not??? I am a tag broke so would like to know if this should be a priority or if it can wait??:surprise:

Can't imagine why the cam would have been changed.

Is the timing chain noisy? No? Leave it alone.

Now the tensioner can wear down and need replacing, but again it will make some noise if its broke.

I think who ever is advising you is thinking about engines that use rubber timing belts that require periodic replacement. These engines, do not. If aint broke, dont fix it.

I didn't realize that your first post was so helpful.

    Edit: I can't be bothered.

The VY V6 uses a single timing/cam chain with a spring loaded tensioner. The tensioner blocks do wear with age, but under normal conditions this and the chain should last well beyond your current odo reading. I would only investigate this further if you have a rattle coming from this area. Otherwise, all good to leave it alone.
    Cheers
