Welcome to Just Commodores, a site specifically designed for all people who share the same passion as yourself.
I took my SSV Redline in for its 175k logbook service.
Something I did notice is that they used Helix HX7 10w30SN+ rather then dexos 5w30.
I wonder if more places are moving to different brand/oil ratings now that Holden has dissapeared, has anyone else noticed this?
In the past I am reasonably sure they used the 5w30 but would need to look up past receipts to confirm.
Is this something I should be concerned about or is any oil close to spec ok as long as regular services are maintained?
I also saw a major jump in service costs now that I have past the cap price services but I guess this was to be expected.
This is also a possibility in which case you have no idea what was used. Though I do note the service sticker is also Shell helix so they possibly use it exclusively. As someone who was a service advisor at a couple of different franchises, I can 200% tell you that the oil on the invoice is not always the oil that gets used, more often than not it gets changed (rightly or wrongly) and the service software doesn't get updated so the advisor just punches in whatever to make the invoice balance as required.
I'd not bank on that eitherThis is also a possibility in which case you have no idea what was used. Though I do note the service sticker is also Shell helix so they possibly use it exclusively.
I have a trusted local mechanic for the larger stuff like trans service or diff replacement etc. I do all my own engine oil, brake fluid and coolant changes. I also now have the ability to swap out modules and reprogram. Holden service not really needed in my neck of the woods anymore.
