2016 VF Series 2 SSV Redline.
My discussion with the ex Holden Dealer was along the lines of now
that a lot of these cars are out of warranty. Why aren't you using more generic parts, G.M. haven't done us any favours, so why are you still using their ridiculously
overpriced inventory.
The example l used was for a Transmission Filter and Gasket for a VF Redline, the ex dealer wanted over $300 for the parts through G.M. Mace Engineering got 2 filters and gaskets delivered to the door for just over $80.
Admittedly Mace Engineering had them on sale at the time, but even if l had payed the normal amount that Mace charge at $80/ Trans
Kit l still could have brought 4 Kits
for less than GM product.
The GM Trans Kit and the the Kits
Mace Engineering sent over were
exactly the same.
Some GM parts seem to be better than a lot of the generic alternatives, water pumps could be an example, but again the GM
pumps are over $800 over here.

I avoid all dealerships as a plague.
I use trusted local mechanic if the car is under warranty and DIY most other things.

That oil is fine for your car although I would go to local mechanic next time or just supply your own oil next time. You will save money and have the exact oil you want.

In your case any good synthetic 5w30, 10w30, 5w40 or even 10w40 will be just fine.
I use Mobil1 5w30 but if you want something cheaper go with Penrite 5w30 GFS or Catrol Edge 5w30 A3/B4.
Castrol edge is ofter 40 or 50% off.
I have a few sitting around for our Mazda 3.

On a delership note. Front lower control arms on our 2016 mazda 3 a gooooone. Conveniently the rear bush is not replaceable and we need both complete lower control arms. I am sure $1200 for parts alone makes a nice cut for the dealer ! All for a worn out piece of rubber they decided can't be replaced. Apparently all Mazda 3s from this era suffer from this after about 80 000km.

I took my SSV Redline in for its 175k logbook service.
Something I did notice is that they used Helix HX7 10w30SN+ rather then dexos 5w30.
I wonder if more places are moving to different brand/oil ratings now that Holden has dissapeared, has anyone else noticed this?
In the past I am reasonably sure they used the 5w30 but would need to look up past receipts to confirm.
Is this something I should be concerned about or is any oil close to spec ok as long as regular services are maintained?
I also saw a major jump in service costs now that I have past the cap price services but I guess this was to be expected.

As someone who was a service advisor at a couple of different franchises, I can 200% tell you that the oil on the invoice is not always the oil that gets used, more often than not it gets changed (rightly or wrongly) and the service software doesn't get updated so the advisor just punches in whatever to make the invoice balance as required.

This thing that I guess worries me the most is the oil used is not fully synthetic. If you look at the datasheet for the oil used it states:-
Uses both synthetic and mineral based stocks to achieve higher performance levels than can be formulated from mineral oils alone. Where as dexsos oils are formulated exclusively with synthetics or synthetic blends

This is also a possibility in which case you have no idea what was used. Though I do note the service sticker is also Shell helix so they possibly use it exclusively.

I'd not bank on that either

The troubling thing is that the same oil brand and formulation should be stuck with. It is a bad idea to mix different oil manufacturers - they all put in their own modifiers, which can be negated when mixed with others. If I ever change oil formulations I would make sure to use an oil flush and drain the oil at operating temperature. To be honest, it doesnt really matter which synthetic oil you use, but consistency is key.

I have a trusted local mechanic for the larger stuff like trans service or diff replacement etc. I do all my own engine oil, brake fluid and coolant changes. I also now have the ability to swap out modules and reprogram. Holden service not really needed in my neck of the woods anymore.

Best advice for anything in life. Be as self-sufficient as you bloody well can.
