I'm paying rego for two cars every year, but i can only ever drive one at a time. Does that mean i shouldn't have to pay rego for my second (and more) vehicles?

Check, and mate :) Thanks for playing

Tangent, I am all for paying one registration per person, without having to pay separate rego on multiple cars.

pedestrians also use the road. Can't walk and drive at the one time. Does that mean they should also pay rego ?
Check and mate - thanks for playing.......

Yes, actually, if they pay tax, they do pay for road infrastructure. Do you, as a motorist, think you don't pay for the footpath or bike path you're not using?

Even if someone wanted to go hardcore cyclist and not use a car at all they would still be paying for things they wouldn't (don't?) use like car parking spaces at shopping centres.

Where cycle paths are provided, it's hard to amke the argument that they shouldn't be used but if there is only a choice between sharing the road with cars or the footpath with pedestrians, on balance the road is preferable.

It is possible for pedestrians to be killed or injured by cyclists riding on footpaths. Particularly vulnerable are elderly people. I can recall an incident a few years ago where a guy was prosecuted for hitting and killing an elderly person while he was riding a bike. If a cyclist chooses to ride on the road, the decision to take the inherent risk is theirs and not being imposed upon someone else.

It's not always safer for the cyclist to ride on a footpath either. There is a much greater risk of being hit by vehicles reversing out of driveways - I have seen this happen myself, fortunately without serious injury but that was luck as much as anything - and it increases the danger when crossing roads (while riding rather than dismounted) as it puts the cyclist in a postion where motorists will not typically look for them.

you know you are supposed to look over your shoulder to check that don't you, even if it means SLOWING down.

my 2c is there are some very poor attitudes on our roads wether it be cyclists or motorists, and as a professional driver I am well aware of this fact, so I live with it and get on.
quiet often I am inconvenienced by cyclists and motorist alike, but I expect it, so it is no suprise to me, and because it is going to happen no matter what, why whinge about it?
also how many of you have stopped got out of the car and thanked them or even taken notice when a cyclist didn't get in your way? it's easy to bitch about the negatives.
and I come home every day and all I remember is the d!()head car drivers.

I'm not sure you grasped the concept. But overall a good effort for trying.

I give a wave or a nod if a cyclist (or moto rider/car driver) does something curtious for me. I also give a finger and hold down the horn if they're a moron ;)

well seeing how you have quoted obscure road laws such as traveling under the speed limit and holding up traffic,
you would also be well aware about the laws regarding the correct use of a warning device, such as a horn. which you are using illegally.

EDIT; what the hell CHECK AND MATE! thanks for playing.

I get so many comments on this video going "all drivers are ####s they should get off their fat asses and ride like us" so I had to start moderating comments to actual people with proper discussion....

you are right and what your are saying is true - couldnt agree more. on a normal road with two lanes, over take him = easy right?

the cyclist wasn't wearing any fluro gear or have any flashing lights attached. making a delay time in noticing him (which i also feel people on motorbike riders should have to wear fluro jackets)

if it was a car pulled over i would have seen it from further back and act accordingly. and ive also learnt when other road users see a car broken down on the other side of the road, a majority move over to the emergency lane to help let the lane over take. this does not happen with cyclists

the road i was travailing along was an 80k road, which was also a detour road which meant was congested of traffic. i wasnt going to travel 20ks/h for 5-10ks until the road opened up. i couldnt over take as per my original quote, i would of hit oncoming traffic that didnt break.

so if you feel it was safer to travel @ 20k's an hour for 5-10ks thats fine. i feel thats even more dangerous seeing as you're only meant to do 10ks under the posted speed limit. unless of course theres an emergency ahead.

im not arguing the law, and did not need any quoting from vicroads. it was pointless. i didnt ask what the law was. i asked for your opinion.

why not? everyone here is a road user and has an opinion on the matter.

also im not biased, i ride my push bike in the summer time to the gym

OP was in a loaded truck, takes a while for a truck to over take and even if it is a bike. As he said tried his best to avoid hitting the bike rider.
It does frustrate me, when I have to brake from 60 to below 20, when the rider is in the middle of the road, and cannot overtake cause its illegal.

Being on the foot path will cause more issues as pedestrians walking dogs will have no room and cars backing out will most likely hit a few.
I think the government needs to use some tax payer money in the right way for once and create more bike lanes.

Im not against them so much but the roads cant cope with them.
    Its just to dangerous.

I was in a situation a few days back.. I had to merge to my left to take a different road, bike was on the left and a car almost pulled out in front of the rider. So my merging and the car sticking out and the bike rider almost got into a large tangle. Gave it a little kick and avoided the bike sandwich. Or hit the arse of the car that pulled up in the lane i was in.

So do what they did in the Sydney CBD

Cut many car lanes out so they can be a bike lane instead to make it a nightmare for drivers. Yes that goes down really well.

it was more a tongue in cheek comment,
and it has shown alot of people on here either have no idea about rulings/laws or do not want to show common courtesy to others.

its another topic that is done to death, and nothing gets done about it.
and nothing will get done about it until someone important gets killed while riding a bike.

all it takes is everyone giving each other a slight bit of respect/room and having a brain.
which as society too many people cannot fathom or grasp a simple complex that works elsewhere in the world.
Todays world is too Self Centred, and until that is changed (which it wont) a solution can never arise

simple solution seeing you want discussion.
make the roads a good 1-2m wider on the Lefthand side.
however due to how suburbia has been built and not building for the future alot of inner areas, this cannot happen.
however alot of roads can still have this occur.

If someone is trying to merge into my car, i consider using my 'warning' device quite legal. So does the law ;)

Once again, a good try, but not quite on the money.

If the rider is 'crossing' a lane to continue right in your scenario, he would have to giveway to you...
