There's a valve on the fuel rail return junction - with a vacuum line connection to the back of the Plenum chamber .

I figure it's there to keep the pressure in the rail high, so that it can release the over spec pressure back to the tank return.

I currently have a problem with my engine starting and running for only 1-2 secs then cutting out.
Only thought is this valve is maybe dialing up the pressure to much and some other sensor is tripping the ECU.

Recent work :

I have recently cleaned the injectors (which were new - only in use for 1 week) and protected with an extra fuel filter just up stream of rail. Rail also clean.

Checked
Injectors - yes working
MAF sensor - cleaned and test for correct resistance 9.7, 9.7 and 157 ohms
Fuel pump pressure - priming gives a healthy flow (entering rail)
Rail and injector seats (but valve was hard to get back into position and put the retainer clip back on. O-rings were fine though.)
Coil packs and spark plugs are new and have spark.
CAS has been replaced - assumed to still be working.
All fuses - ok
Vacuum leaks - all new hoses and gaskets connecting to the plenum chamber.

Cheers
Matt

Got spare key?

Starting then cutting out right away is something a VY will do with defective electronics in the key. Not sure why.

unfortunately no go with the spare.. but because thats an old one too, I won't rule it out.
The remote is still working fine so ... yeah at least its not battery.

I'll have to get a code reader , just going to look for suggestions on here for ALDL etc.

Valve is called fpr, fuel pressure regulator.
Have you error checked it?
Does the red light on the mode switch go out or stay on?

Hi Lex thanks
The red (!) on the dash light stays on - not sure if that's the right one I'm supposed to be looking at :)
The actual switch is not illuminated on my VY ?

Hi
I may have made a mistake. On my vt l have a red light that flashes on the mode button, when car is turned off. When l start car, the red light stops flashing.
Which means the bcm has disabled vats (vats means vehicle anti theft system ). So car will start. If everything else is ok.
I thought it was the same on a vy?

The FPR is vacuum controlled and has no influence over the PCM or vice-versa.

It could a fuel pump relay problem. A fuel pressure test will confirm.
