I want a bit more torque for towing on the highway but still good fuel economy? Where should i start? Exhaust (done) Cold air intake (done) But i didn't notice any difference except more noise! Any ideas? Thanks Pat:bow:
Big trans cooler. Won't help torque, but it might save you auto... Slighty quicker diff-gears would be one way around the issue, these V6's struggle sitting at 100 on the freeway, a few more revs might make the motor a bit happier (closer to peak torque...). I towed a VP V6 & auto 50km yesterday in a box trailer behind my VR, and it wasn't liking it. Just didn't like having that much load at such low revs i feel.
i agree with beeb, a transmission cooler is definately in order if you're going to be towing a fair bit, my vx v6 auto had a transmission cooler and a hayman reese towbar fitted before i owned it, and did a fair bit of towing, and the transmission is still very strong.
A cam swap would be large expense for very minimal changes. You could try something like a VN S1 cam, as they had the most "instant" torque of the V6's, but it really would not be worth it. You might get about a 2% gain, for probably $500+ bucks and a weekend's work. What are you actually trying to tow, and how often? If it's just the occasional tow, just get the trans cooler in there and go easy on it when you're towing... Short of adding a positive-displacement supercharger, or adding some cubes, There's no "cheap" fix for more torque.
Tow every second weekend usually bikes but sometime a caravan but nearly always long distance and it struggles.
Bolt on some Y/T 195:1 rollers, they will compliment the exhaust and cold air.... Then get it tuned, you will be surprised
I know its a typo but can I get some 195:1 rockers for my car. 62.156" of valve life, may need modified rocker cover.
Diff Upgrade - 3.75:1 at least. Trans cooler (must have). Get transmission flushed and have an additive added to help it along. Check Tailshaft bearing and universal joints, replace as necessary. Check Stub axels if indepdant rear, with heavy duty LPG Springs If Solid axels, you can upgrade springs here, and add some pump up shockers, but don't wire them up from one air nipple seperate is the go. Exhaust you should keep a bit of backpressure on it, too big only makes noise not torgue. And considering your going for towing not brawling, 2.5 Inch single with good flowing muffler should have been the choice. Best of luck, with the money your spending here, to make it function, you might have been better with a old school UTE..... perhaps? Cheers.
