As best I know, its an old word that was used instead of calling your Mrs a silly bitch. Fairly sure it was originally an Italian word that they ended up calling very effeminate homosexual men. Basically because they were carrying on like a silly bitch.

It's no where near as offensive as what most people make it out to be.
