Looks pretty serious. But assuming that the floorpan from about the diff forward hasn't moved and so all the suspension and driveline still work properly surely it wouldn't cost $18k just to fix the hatch area? Roof could be another issue I suppose if it had moved. But little chance of replacing the SS for $18k so hopefully you can can persuade them to fix it...

Looks like it's already at the crash shop. What did the crash shop say when you took it in? I always ask for an opinion from the place of repair and have always been given an answer, when I've done serious damage from animal strikes. Or even when I hit black ice and did some decent damage. My old ute was written off but it was only due to parts supply but still I was told straight up it wasn't going to be a write off, but it was when they couldn't get parts.

If there’s roof damage or creases which also may have affected the door openings etc, I reckon it could be touch and go as to whether they write it off.:(
A few years back my daughter ran up the back of another car in her BA Falcon, there didn’t appear to be too much damage but they still wrote her car off. Mind you, I think nowadays with labour and material costs being so high the insurance companies tend to write cars off more readily.

The others guys insurance company pays your insurance company. so market value doesn't come into it. It's what your insurance company says is what goes.

Without looking underneath or seeing the roof, hard to say...Wait to see what the panel beaters/insurance company says

As VC said above your insurance value is irrelevant if your not at fault and it generally falls back to whatever the market value is.

They have to be generous in the market value assessment (if they aren’t complete cnuts) as your the one whose life has been disrupted by someone else’s actions.

If they try and lowball you make sure you point out that it’s your pride and joy and you shouldn’t have to suffer because of someone else’s actions.

Also make sure you get onto Carsales, etc and find examples of your car and what they are selling for to put forward as evidence that they owe you more money (should they try and lowball you).

Finding out the market value and having evidence of such puts you in a lot stronger bargaining position. Good luck.
