Remove the black relay (13500128 0248) located near the bottom to the right of the grey one.

Hi everybody yes removal of relay works a charm it does without doubt hold open the valves in exhaust muffler keeping the deep burble at all rpm and throttle input.

Hey are you sure your relay has been put back the right way? The Exhaust relay is facing he other way! I did this to mine when I first took it out and put it back incorrectly which caused the exhaust to stay open all the time.

After reading some of these posts I pulled the bimodal relay from my redline ute this arvo, noticeably different noise wise down low but very slight amount more drone. Nothing that will worry me considering some of my current/previous vehicles. The big v8 definitely needed a little more note down low.

Turns out pulling the relay identified a squeaky valve in my left pipe.

Had been driving me absolutely crazy. This tiny "Chirp" when slowing to a set of lights...
I had been thinking that it was a brake piston getting somewhat stuck....
Squirted some lube up the pipe as you do... sorted.

I told my 10 year old son when I first got the car in January about taking the relay out. I had to show him and drive the car all weekend with it out. Now he asks all the time if the relay is out. The 3 boys love the pops the car makes. I was lucky to have a wagon the other week and that seemed so much noisier than the sedan.

I removed the relay as previously discussed. I did it when the car was off. To be honest I can't notice any difference. If anything it is quieter? Do you have to pull it under load to make it stay open, or what I did was ok?

The flap probably closes when it's not running. So it will be stuck in the closed position. Put the relay back in, whilst the igintion is off, and remove whilst idling.

I haven't pulled my relay (unless someone put in it wrong for me - looks exactly the same as 3rspecB's). The flap is always open in my car when stationary. Just checked to be sure (photo from a few weeks back). Maybe its always open cos it sounds fine? IMG_2724.JPG

Flap should be fully open when the car is turned off. I've only ever removed the fuse while the car is off.

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? :D

The flap remains open whilst stationary and idling. It closes at certain points whilst driving, an reopens under acceleration. There must be some parameter that controls it, but I've yet to work out what that actually is.

Its designed around the parameters of a 'Stationary/Drive By' noise test.
When the car is stationary, valves open during idle, then close when you free rev it to the RPM dictated by the noise test.
During the drive by test, the valves will be closed at the speed/RPM required for testing.

Lol, surely such a cunning stunt isn't legal? Well obviously it is for this car, but what if you could program that with an aftermarket ecu and exhaust?

I'm not sure how it could be illegal, when the car makes that sound with the bimodal open from factory anyway?

So are there any adverse effects to the car or warranty implications at all with having the relay out?
I pulled mine out not long after I got my car but put it back in when I took it to the dealer for the 1 month inspection. (just in case)
I just recently pulled it out again because I hate the way that the sound comes on in a sudden burst rather than being constant. Gives me the shits.
