howdy all, the drivers door won't open! i went out to open it and it's like a spring has gone missing outta the handle??!!?? dammit i now have to open the back door and hit the elec windows and open it from the inside:bang: :ranting: what do i need to have this problem fixed? or ow do i go about fixing this problem...im going to go insane if i have to keep going throug the back everytime i want to open the door. cheers all
Unfortunately I believe that your handle is actually broken. This is a common fault with the aged plastic handles. The plastic becomes fatigued on a particular stress point and splits. Holden will charge you a shade under $50 for a new one, then about $20 - $40 to have it professional painted. Jezz
ok cool so i can have it fixed for just under $100, cheers for that. now i'll ask where can you get this done, does it have to be at holden or is it something most places will be able to do? cheers all
Isn't it just a matter of taking the door trim off and replacing the broken part in the handle? You'll need to by a whole new handle from holden coz they dont sell the parts individually, and I doubt you'll have to change the WHOLE handle, but I wouldnt be to sure. I was quoted $60-$70 EACH to get my handles painted, what a rip (I didnt though ) I thought the same thing happend with my passanger door. My friend couldnt open it, then i went to try from the outside and couldnt open it, then I realised the lock hadnt lifted all the way... deerrr
The lock not lifting all the way up is also a common fault, usually happens after its rained or you've washed the car, and usually on the passenger front. Either that or they have lifted the handle just as you've unlocked the car. There is two parts to the door handle. The only part you'll need to replace is the outer plastic part. You can get to it by removing your door cards, and with the window up, there is 2 nuts, 10mm if I remember right, and a plastic clip that holds a metal rod in place that actuates the door latch. Have to be careful with the clip as they are easily broken, but very easy if you've been shown. As for the work, I wouldn't have Holden remove and install the handle as it is easy enough to do it yourself or a friend if your not comfortable. The plastic handle is what you will have to purchase from Holden ($50+ painting) or a wrecker in your colour ($35 - $45), but from the wrecker they are all close to the same age as your current handle and will probably break soon enough. This has happened to a company VT and I repaired it with some Loctite 406 and some plastic strips. It was still working when they got round to replacing it 6 months latter. Hope that helps. Jezz
