    Hi,

My friend just bought a VR and there is a problem with the door locks.
When you unlock the car, using either the button or the key all the door locks pop up, but then you go to lock it via either method only the front doors and boot lock. The back 2 locks look like they are trying to lock (they shudder) but nothing happens.
Any idea's how I can fix this for my mate?
    Cheers guys,
    Adz

It might be a faulty BCM (Body Control Module) which controls the central locking amongst other things. If there is an error logged in the BCM you can access that by seeing someone with a scantool that can access the BCM.It is most probably a faulty door switch or something else though..If it is the BCM and you get another one from a wrecked car etc,you will need the key from that same car.Its a security thing. The keys security number has to match the BCM security number..

Ouch! I have a 'similar' central locking issue in my VS, AND a sticky ignition barrel, not liking the sound of buying a new BCM, key remote, and barrel.. $$$ :/

damn i thought it might have just needed a bit of CRC or a new latch or something like that =o The key also sticks when you are trying to open the door using it.
Is there any contacts or anything like that which could be dirty and stopping them from engaging? (I've never worked on a VR, only an AU (ewww) and my SS.
    Thanks again!

Before going out and getting a new BCM, rip the door trims off and lube everything. My back drivers side lock wouldn't go down, after a squirt of silicon spray it was right as rain.

Will give that a try. My remote unlocks the rear doors only, and locks the drivers side rear door only, the rest I have to do by hand.. annoying! lol

When I first got my VS the rear doors wouldnt lock/unlock with the central locking.I pulled the trims off and the wiring connectors had come apart.Apparently its fairly common for this to happen.(although if the lock button actually trys to move(shudder) when you try to lock/unlock it,then it is not going to be the wiring connectors). Also when I mention the BCM before in my other post I didnt mean to just go and replace the BCM, thoroughly check everything else out first.Or see if theres any error codes logged, which might point to what the actual problem is.

Ok, Kewl, so checking BCM codes, are they stored in the BCM, but also logged/linked to the ECU, to be read the same way as reading ECU?
Or are BCM codes read seperatly from the ECU?

They are read seperately from the ECU codes. You need to see someone with a scantool (holden) that can access the BCM to check these codes.

Tech 1 is used up to 1995 VS models, after 95(late VS & VT onwards) they use a Tech 2.

ok so after going out at arvo brew and taking a look, the back door locks pop up, which makes me think its not the BCM or lube, but they won't go back down ????
    its got me stuffed....

What? You had better tell everyone just what a scantool is then if a Tech 1 or Tech 2 arent. Vetronix (the makers of the Tech 1) call it a scantool in their user manuals. Are you gonna say you know better and that they are wrong and dont know what they are saying or selling.

Sometimes the orange tab on the button can catch just enough to stop it going down to the lock position. Explains the shudder and why it will always unlock but not always lock.

I believe if you get the button off and give the bottom of the orange tab a light sand it should fix it.

My right rear door will lock sometimes.....sometimes not..... I just need to extract the digit and do something about it !

Nope I wouldn't say I know better, purely for the fact i don't, and i don't make out I do.
I just know that my mate is a mechanic (not the best one but he'll do), he has a scantool, and I asked him if it was a tech 2, as i wanted something done with a tech 2, he said hell no, see Holden, they are the only people who have access to tech 2s. Just what he told me, passing on that info.

Holden make Astra's and Vectra's, are they the same? They're made by the same company so they must be the same? they're both cars after all!
There are many kinds of scan tools available, they just don't have the same features as the tech 1/2s

so sorry to have offended you lol not my intention
