I think what he's saying is, the guy who run the light triggered it, which resulted in the wrong person being fined.
He said he had to wait for the guy, meaning he was on the other side. So it wouldn't get a picture of him.....
Yeah i had to wait for the on coming car to pass, before i could safely turn right. But i 100% entered the intersection on the green... They dont take photos when it's green only when they their is a car in / going through the intersection on red. Because i made the safe decission, i got rewarded with a 300 buck ticket. Got to love Melb CBD.
As i explained, they dont work that way. if you were in the intersection, your car couldn't have set off the sensor.....
Well i prob set it off because i had to sit in the intersection for 1.2seconds... I am 100% positive i didn't enter the intersection on the red because i know it was a red light camera, also knew what the law was. And as i stated before i just missed the turning arrow, meaning i was the first car to enter the intersection when the red arrow disappeared.
The camera would only set off if its red. If the chain of events happened as you explained, it wouldn't set off. It was more likely this, you had the nose of your car in the intersection when the arrow went out, the rear wheels still on or behind the white line, then it went red, then you went through the intersection, which is classed as running a red light, so you were fined accordingly. If it was anything other than that (ie your WHOLE car was in front of the white line) then you just gifted the government $300, which is stupid on your part.....
that's a fair point, telling me im bloody stupid though isn't. i agree with that idea, they do it that way somewhere like Switzerland from memory?
I didn't say you are stupid, i said its a stupid idea (and it is, it means rich people can speed and poor people cant, and thats not really going to work considering your meant to be 'punished' because of the offence.....) It STILL needs demerit points attached. And the more the better......
I'm not going to argue with you, seems you think cameras work 100% all the time, i know what i did and my car was in the whole intersection on the GREEN. You can say 'what you think i did' but what i've said is what happened, i have no reason to lie and as i said, i went away from 3 weeks and didn't want the drama of going to court over $300.
my understanding from what you've said is that the other car set of the camera and the camera pinged you in the intersection?
And like i said, you gave them money for nothing since you were in the right. I'll pm you my bank details and you can send me $300 if you still keen on giving it away
Yes, double demerits are a pain in the ass, but I think fining people does nothing. At the end of the day, you pay the fine and jump back in the car. Fining is revenue raising and does nothing in terms of road safety. Fines based on income? Fark off. With demerit points, it serves as a greater incentive to drive to the rules. The threat of loosing your license through demerit points is far greater in my opinion than copping a fine and being sent on your way.
Doesn't NSW have double demerits? Wasn't their 2009 road toll higher than 2008? During the same period Vic's road toll dropped 4% without double demerits points. Guess they don't work!
Stats don't mean much until the full data set is revealed. For instance, isn't the number of cars on the road increasing each year? Double demerit periods are quite short and all it would take is a handful of idiots to significantly skew the results. I think using stats to say demerit points don't work is drawing a very long bow. Too many factors involved. I still maintain that if they make it easier to loose your license through demerit points, you would be looking after it a lot more than rather paying a fine.
You're wrong there Smurftec, people who speed on roads out where I live often don't get caught, but they often do get dead, and often take out other innocent drivers with them. The majority of people doing the right thing, DO have to worry, because they have to be constantly on the look out for those who are not..
i see your point, but as you said "where I live often don't get caught", I don't know exactly where you live, but I made the generalization based upon the main urban areas, where the poliice concentration is alot heavier in terms of dealing with issues. I myself dont have to worry driving around in Sydney because I know with the amount of RBT's they have and undercover cars, speed traps, and aerial enforcement, offenders will 9/10 times be caught, but I see the point you make from where YOU live.
they said on the tv news here that speeding fines were up 33% this year but the road toll was the lowest since the 50s or something. so; speeding up road toll down
