Hi All, can anyone tell me why my vs ute has two D's on the gear selector,Is the first one third gear and the blue one fourth with overdrive. Can someone explain it.
The first D limits the automatic changing of the trans to the first three gears. This is a useful setting for around the city because it limits the amount of auto gear changing between 3rd gear and 4th (overdrive) gear, and also because it makes the car easier to drive because you don't have to use the brake every time you go down a slight incline, which makes the trans shifts from 3rd to 4th. On the other hand you are paying for a (probably miniscule) increase in fuel consumption. The second D allows the trans to use all four gears including the 4th overdrive - not terribly useful in the city for the reasons above. Personally I never use the second D unless I am travelling over 80 kph.
As hax said some one threw a selector from a VN to VP. It's purely cosmetic. Before the electronic gearboxes of the VR and the little power toggle you had 2 options. D with overdrive and D without.
