5L/100km ? My 011 Kia Cerato barely does that, even in 6th gear at 100kmh, with no passengers or luggage, on a journey. I think your keyboard is dyslexic.

I've had 7.8l/1000kms average over about 500kms. I have pics to prove it. but I was super gentle on it, just to see how good it could be. Was boring as batsh1t. The trip back from Brisbane was much more fun

high 14s seems very high... i would say anything over 12 is high. the quoted L/100 when the cars were released was 11.0L/100km (on mixed cycle)

how many K's has your car done? could be time for a service/tune up if she's drinking too much

Mine gets 12.8 in my day to day city run, but I do run the M5 car park from Sydneys SW to the city every day in peak hour, so that's acceptable

    2013 MY12.5 SV6Z + 2016 MY16 SV6, both manuals
    Hi,

    Joining in a bit late.

I have had both an MY09 and an MY11 SV6 manual now. Did 75K in the MY09 and just passed 26K on the latter.

I have found the gearing on the MY11 to be much better for drivability. If just motoring with the traffic, I tend to change up when the next gear RPM will drop into the range 1,500 to 2,000. If motoring uphill or a bit harder, then I delay the gear change, but rarely do I find any need to go above 3,000 RPM. For flat and gentle undulations, I find 6th gear works well down to 70 KPH, i.e. no labouring and smooth and acceptable response. The MY09 6th, being taller geared and non-SIDI, was less effective even at 80 KPH.

I keep detailed records for tax purposes, and have averaged 10.64 L/100Km in the MY11 so far, primarily driving around Sydney. This is a calculated figure, not off the trip computer.

I recently fitted a Calais cluster, which has allowed me to look into internal engine "drag". With aircon off in neutral, my vehicle uses 0.9 L/hr at idle, 1.8 L/hr at a constant 1,000RPM, 2.4 L/hr at 1,500 RPM, 3.4 L/hr at 2,000 rpm and 4.3 L/hr at 2,500.

That shows the benefit of keeping RPM down, but the danger as identified by others is going so low that the engine labours for the throttle position being employed. In the case of modern engines, that means that the knock protection will retard the ignition timing, making the engine even less efficient than would have been the case with older engines.

For bragging rights, I once drove my VY II V6 manual back from Bathurst via Bells Line of Road. As with the VE, the VY used no fuel while using engine braking down the hill. I also had a calais cluster in that car, and at the top of Kurrajong Hills, it was showing less than 100Km range. After the descent from Kurrajong Heights, it was showing 520 Km range. I then refueled and the trip computer showed a range of 2,220 Km. If only!!!

i have a 2011 SSV Manual Ute, when i feel like driving economically i will usually take off in 2nd, shift at around 2500rpm and go straight to 4th, and again go to around 2500rpm and shift straight to 6th. or in situations where I'm on a bit of a hill i'll take off in 1st and skip straight to 3rd then 5th.....and so on and so forth, also skip gears on the downshift too........

I tend to cruise with the revs pretty low, 40km zone id be in 3rd.....50km 4th, 60-80km in 5th and anything about 80km i'll be in 6th.

I do a mix of highway and city driving every day and my fuel consumption is almost always between 12-12.5L/100km over the whole tank. With good traffic flow and lots of green lights i sometimes even end up in the 11's

couldn't be happier, the power is there when i want it, but when i wanna cruise it just loves to chug along.

What kind of driving were you doing to get 4.3L/100km? Short of driving down a hill the whole way...

Yes but over what distance, is that the average you get out of every tank, or was that reset and taken at the end of the street?

To measure your average over 100kms, you need to actually drive the 100kms, not take a photo after 1km and call that good economy.
