Here a few weeks ago i post a q about what to do about the exhaust on my vt senator. (5L) after all the advice i thought id give my own idea a go. from factory it already has the hsv headders, hsv high flow cats and muflers and is twin 2-1/4" nearly all the way. So i took the rear muffler out and bent up a twin 2-1/2" dual system that went from the two front mufflers to the rear. and also fitted two hotdogs. Basicaly its very droney. any ideas of ways to fix? maybe fitting the hotdogs around the other way? so the vents face the rear? Maybe needs a cross over more near the back of the car? maybe 2-1/2" dual is a bit too big for the 5L? maybe a 2-1/4 would be better suited? Advice, Critisism etc is all welcome. Cheers Jason
Sounds like you may work in an exhaust shop? Did you just start there? With spiral louvre hot dogs, the vents always face the rear. The cats are not high flow if they are factory. I also assume its an auto? With an auto you really need a balance tube/x pipe up the front just behind the cats and I would have used the two hotdogs up the front and a single twin in and out rear muffler.
haha nah no exhaust shop for me. Im a fitter n turner. Ah looks like i got the dogs around the wrong way. would that not be helping things? I think you will find that the HSV cats are high flow. It already has straight through mufflers up front and cross overs behind the cats. Do realy want to try and keep the dual system right through. not only do they look better but usualy sound nicer also....... might just go and grab a Xforce dual system with straight through rear boxes and bolt that on. =)
I think you will find they aren't. HSV only started using a better flowing cat on the LS1. But anyway, on to your problem. Having a rear muffler that is twin in and out will still give you a twin system all the way. Inside the rear muffler the pipes run side by side, it will reduce the drone because the sound waves from each pipe act against each other in the rear muffler eliminating most of the drone. An X-force system probably won't make much difference if you keep a similar configuration to what you have. I have sold countless systems with hotdog front and muffler rear and they sound good, give a nice crackle but without the drone.
you a exhaust place? if so any chance of a price of a rear section to suit mine? may as well just go from the front two mufflers back. but anyhow id be interested to know a price for a few diferent options. cheers jason
