Old school Q9550 Yorkfield (775). E0 revision/stepping so she OC's like a beast with a D14 against it.
I was pretty pleased with it, went above expectations. Pretty cool too, I run EIST so she throttles, 25c idle and has never broken 70c at load. The cards run hot (960mhz/1500mhz), not sure on idle, but they can crack 90c gaming. In a HAF with lots of flow so it's never been an issue.
Idle temps mean little to me, show me the money! The Noctua is a pretty sweet air cooler, rivals cheap water. The GPU is hot but they tend to run hotter than a CPU. Heat isn't a worry unless you're having issues, like artefacts or crashes (or smoke). 100c + might get my attention. I do have big air OCs on my kit.
Rough pics but this is all it is. The cooler sits about 12mm from the side I have removed. Biggest cooler I've ever used was the size of a bar freezer, mainly cos it was a bar freezer. Went from this: To this: I called it operation deep freeze. Annoyed I didn't get more pics. Back in 2005 I was a little obsessed and had a touch more money than brains. Hit -23c but I could never master condensation. Somewhere on Overclockers.net I held a few OC records for a A64 4200+ Toledo and spent a while in the top 10 CPU and GPU (7800GTX 512Mb in SLI).
LOL! Jesus... that is going to the xtreme for cooling. In related news, my RAM and gtx760 OC arrived today. Only issue is I am still waiting on the adapter cable 2 SATA to 8-pin to power the thing. Already have the 6-pin but the additional 8 in surprised me.
So, did some fiddling and removed the DVD drive from my PC and put that in an external box. So have power for the 760. Put new and card in, everything is up and running. I did a test run of the card with Assassin Creed Black Flag with everything maxed out, during a ship battle with fire, smoker explosions etc and it so so smooooth! This prompted me to pop down to EB and purchase BF4. Installing as we speak. One thing, I now have a 150x165 hole in the front of my case which I am thinking about filling with a big fan. Hmmm...
PSU Is a P4 something or other. 720W. Haven't touched the OC on the card yet, seeing how it goes default and I will go from there.
720W has plenty of room to power your DVD player, if you're worried about it not being enough. I maxed Crysis 2 with it OC no problem with the 770. I love it!
Ah, not so much worried about not being able to power the DVD, just that I am impatient to wait for the 2 SATA to 8-PIN PCI power so I pinched the 4 pin that was powering the DVD and another spare 4 pin to power the 760. Once the adapter cable comes in I will re-configure, having say that, may not be a point as I don't have that much need for a DVD.
