I'd highly recommend against that for various fairly obvious reasons, but if you cant find a 200amp alternator in your price range, might I suggest you fabricate a custom bracket and use a supercharger belt so that you have the extra room to move.

yer i was thinking of making a pulley then bolt using longer bolts it on the power steering pump and then making a mounting it the wheel arch

would highly recommend that you don't mount an alternator on the wheel arch, with a belt connecting it to the engine unless you want some major issues, including severe damage to the guard, and whatever the alternator hits when it come flying towards the engine with half the guard.

    As above this can't work.

Why do you need the extra electrical current?

sure your current setup isnt just dying. ive had a stock vl with 5 subbs and 3 amps running off the std alternator and good 600cca battery, headlights only dimed a bit on high beem.

a seccond alternator is not required, but a duel battery setup might be an idea, mounted in the boot running off the front battery for the stero

I vote second battery with isolator kit.

What sort of sound system are you running to drain your battery like this. I run 2000wrms and have no problems. Are you running the audio with the engine off?

Shouldn't need a 2nd alternator, you could try running a capacitor in your audio system would help take the load of the alternator/battery a bit.

+1 for 2nd battery/isolator kit/single or dual 1 Farad capacitor/s, and maybe a higher output alternator than you have now.
Also, try having the regulator on the back of you alternator inspected and tested by an auto electrician, and your audio installation as well.

Do not buy a capacitor, just get a second battery if you want. A good battery will outperform a cap any day. And to pre-emptive anyone who says caps can provide power faster than a battery, think of your starter motor, draws massive amounts of power very quickly, battery happily supplies it.

Debatable. A second battery in the boot will take about the same amount of time, assuming your just running it normally, and not installing an isolator.

2 Gauge is pretty hard to find. What setup have you got? As in what amp models.

A few people here seem to be miss informed what a capacitor does and how its uses vary to batteries. Supplying extra reserve power and filtering a power source + improving efficiency are 2 different things.

From what I know of how a capacitor to works, is that it can very quickly charge and temporarily store power, then release large amounts of it very quickly on demand.

This can be a desirable characteristic when using power large amps and subs, which often constantly have very high and rapid demands of power.

This is not to be confused with the capacitors that are mounted on the back of alternators.

They are there to filter the power being generated by the alternator, to stop the noises they can produce through the speakers, especially when listening to the radio.

But this problem has all but been removed in most modern cars.

Well, that's just my understanding of it all anyways. :p
