There is no easy way, just ahve to sit there wobbling the lines off, you could cut them off but then you would have to replace them, patience n sumfink to lay on helps

mmm fuel filter is a pain to change in the VR/VS. I did mine last weekend in the SS, it's tricky mainly because your fuel lines will be stuck on. You might like to check out the condition of the short section of fuel hose just on the tank side of the filter before you start this job. Mine was perished and cracking. They're like $2 to replace, just go to Repco or somewhere and ask for a bit of 1/4 inch fuel hose.

jack up back of car, only use axle stand if your really worried about car falling on yourself, undo hose clamp on fuel filter, get sprayed by pressurised fuel from filter, go to hospital to get your eyes washed out, come home, undo other hose clamp, put new filter in and put hoses back on, possibly retighten hose clamps if not to much in a hurry and drive away (consider lowering jack first if you have time)

or you could read the howto and follow that and it will only take a few minutes longer:whistling

Well said. I don't understand why people often want to do jobs the quickest way possible, often skimping on the safety side of things.

It is an easy enough job to do, and it doesn't take THAT long to do safely and properly. Make sure you depressurise the fuel system by starting the engine and then removing the fuel pump relay, then when the engine stalls, crank the starter for about 10 seconds to remove any remaining pressure in the system. Jack the back end of the car up and use axle stands to take up the weight of the car. Take note of the direction of the fuel filter, and then remove the clamps & hoses and the filter. Some fuel may leak out, so it is advisable to have a small container handy to collect any petrol. Inspect the condition of the clamps and hoses, if they are shot, then replace. Also note that there is a different fuel filter for IRS and non IRS vehicles; as the location is slightly different. Installation is simple, just install the filter and hook up the connections again, and make sure the connections are secure. Replace the fuel pump relay, and start up the engine and inspect the filter to ensure there is no fuel leakage.

I would advise wearing safety goggles / glasses whilst working under the car, as petrol in your face or eyes isn't too pleasant. Also wear gloves if you have skin that is easily irritated.

    Cheers

and listen to these guys, rushing fuel side of things isnt a good idea. take the extra 5 minutes or so and do it right.

I didn't think there was a slow way? start car, pull fuel pump fuse, wait till car dies, jack up, then it's 2 hose clamps. took me about 15 minutes all up, and that's including putting it in the shed and hunting for the shed key

Just jack the RHS rear up and remove the wheel, there is no need to get under the car then, you can get at it by just sitting on the ground and reaching through the wheel well. If you don't want to go to the trouble of removing the relay and depressurizing the system, just have an ice cream container under the filter to catch most of the fuel. Fuel will run out of the filter whether you depressurize it or not anyway.

It should only drip what it in the filter n the lil bit of fuel line there, probly no more than 500ml, probly more like 250ml not much.

I just lifted mine up soo the hole was up the top, save any extra drips fallin down on me.

I got sprayed last year doing my V6. Hot filthy reverse-flushed filter fuel. I didn't know what I was doing lol had no idea there'd be that much pressure..

Did the one in my 5L VR last week, went fine except 1 perished cracking hose and the hoses being really stuck on.

    Have fun :)

Wrap some cloth around the connection before pulling the hose off so that you don't get sprayed with petrol.
