My mates VT Series 1 died the other night. We have found a hole out the side of the block, and when we pulled the engine yesterday, found numerous bits of piston, rod and bearing sitting on the bottom of the now destroyed sump. Oil was regularly changed with Castrol Magnatec, as was coolant. Has 220,000 kms on it Are Ecotec's renound for crapping themselves? from what i have heard they are fairly robust and will go forever. We just cant work out why this one died.. Cheers Dave
His Mrs was driving it, sitting on about 60/70kms on an unsealed road. You cant go any faster if you tried on the road she was on!
my VT ecotech has 220k on it and still going plenty strong..im sure there are others out there who have much more k's on there motors..anyhow a second hand one isnt that dear anyway..look in the local rag and see if you cant get a low klm VY one..more newer and would have less k's on it:w00t:
My VT has 220k's and has got a miss that even holden can't find, doesn't burn but drips oil, still its a great car
:bang: ****! i use magnatec oil as well, can anybody clarify if this oil is not good enough? If not what is the best oil to use on my loved VT?
its just what ive heard from other people, if anyone has first hand experince then please post it here.
same as mine mate - mine also died pretty much on 230,000 km's ive had the car 5 yrs and never thrashed it - always serviced on time and looked after - then on a long trip down south at 100 k's an hour - not over revving - BANG went the engine - 4,500 to fix
Hmmm two people whos engines have blown at around the 220,000km mark, not good. Mine is yet to hit that yet. I wonder what is it common, because im stumped :bang:
dont want to get ya too worried - ha ha - once i had the engine rebuilt it runs like a dream - trying to sell her now -
nah he never said - just said one of the pistons went south and did a ton of damage - i honestly have no idea - as i say i never thrashed it - i drive like a nanna - and it was always serviced properly - oh well - trying to flog it off now haha - it probably didnt like the vx back end i put on her ha ha - though i reckon it looks tons better
u guys suck haha my cars almost hit 200000kms now im gonna b drivin like a nanna now till i do another 20000kms hahaha
The common name for what happened to you is called "Shot a Leg" or "Broke a Leg". This usually occurs when one of the Pins on the Conrod to Pistons breaks or comes loose and then the Conrod Bashes into the side of the block, breaking a hole in it. (Usually a little smaller that a golf ball). It can happen anytime. My mate had a car he was just driving down his street, almost home and it did the same thing. Just bad luck. Magnatec Sucks. I Used it in my VS and found the engine knocked in the bottom end. Always stuck to Shell 10w/30 or 10w/40. Never had a problem. My mate has a WRX and he uses Magnatec and his engine is now knocking. I told him it was the Magnatec. He now uses a Shell oil. He wreckens its a bit quieter now!!!
strange my mate bought his vt at 150k its now up to 308k and he's thrashed the crap out of it, so maybe they just need to be treated like a hoe?
