Looking to drop a lower kay ecotec into my VS while i build the current motor. So the temporary motor im putting in is in excellent condition, but i want to take some precautionary measures before she steps into service. Im thinking.. rear main seal, intake manifold gaskets, pulleys, water pump. Since i require it to serve me for at least 12 months (copping moderate abuse), would it be worth doing main bearings? im going to pull the sump off to clean the oil pickup anyway, plus i can get a bearing kit cheap.. Are main bearings a slide out, slide in affair, or is there more to it? I want to take these precautionary measures coz i dont know the full history of this motor, It ran nice and didnt blow smoke (also, very minimal oil blow back inside plenum). I just dont want it to ****e itself the first time i stress it. Any further advice is much appreciated
do the seals and water pump if you think it's suspect but the rest i'd leave. why spend money unless you need to:thumbsup:
Im just worried bout the 'broke' part rearing its ugly head as soon as i rev the thing out a few times
dont do main bearings there is a lot more to that than people think. i would just do rear main seal, front main seal and sump gasket. -mainly anything that you will have to take the motor out for.
