Ive only ever shot a rifle once but i will often walk around with a loaded gun.......

I was not advocating gun violence, I was making a sarcastic (?) remark that if people couldn't work out which way an aircraft takes off, they were unlikely to know which end of rifle to hold. Bit far-fetched, I know.

But, anyway, back to SLRs …. As a RAAF rookie, I could never work out why, when we were issued our rifles from the armoury (different one from last time), they would be dirty, and the sights misaligned, and we would have to strip, clean them, and spend half a mag on sighting shots, finish up, strip, clean and return them, only to be issued another dirty rifle next time.
Yeah, good practice, but who were the elves who used them during the night ?.

I’m sure they were specialist overpaid military contractors who’s job it was to bugger them up so you could learn and practice your craft :p
