Electric Handbrake Not Working ?

Sorry, but this is nonsense. The EPB most certainly operates in gear. I use mine all the time at the lights so I can take my foot off the brake. It also has a hill control feature that holds the car on a hill for several seconds with your foot off the brake pedal.
I'm also one who applies the EPB before shifting to park.

If you open the drivers door you can hear the EPB whether it is engaging and disengaging...do it in a quite spot....like in your garage or on your driveway.

If you can find a quite spot like your garage or driveway and open the drivers door.....you can hear the EPB engaging and disengaging.

Yeah I have a manual, it's making sounds but not as loud as it used to, I also get the light pop up here and there

The VF in auto requires the transmission to be in Park before the EPB can be applied

It can be applied in any shift state and you can also engage it while driving.
