Just wondering if its easy to put an electronic dash (like the one's in a vs calais or vs clubby) into my vs ss, ive seen ppl selling them on ebay but i dont know if its just a matter of swapping them over, or would there be extra wiring and extra parts needed.

A level 3 dash will just plug straight in. The only thing you need to do that's the slightest bit tricky is that the level 2 loom doesn't have the fuel sender wire for the level 3 dash, which just means that you have to run a wire over to the passenger side kick panel, and wire it into the ecu/pcm. From memory it's the yellow/black wire, but don't take my word for it, although I'm 99% sure.

    It can be done.

I have done this mod a while ago.

To achieve full functionality, you would need the following:

    1) A VR or VS cluster, which would need to be a V8 one for you.

    2) The trip computer buttons.

    3) A wiring patch harness, which will need to be spliced into the main vehicle harness, and will need the fourth connector unique to the electronic dash, the connector to the trip computer buttons, and the wire referred to in the above reply. This harness can be manufactured from a Statesman, Calais or Berlina harness, or a new one. This is usually the most difficult part to source.

Overall, mod takes a couple of hours. I certainly think that it is worth the effort.

    Good luck.

Furthermore to my above question, i didnt know that the v6 and v8 electronic dash is different (Fekason advised id need a v8 in my case). Anyone know the difference, so i know what to look for when purchasing 1.

Only difference is the tacho, otherwise the reading will be out.

The temp gauge wont read totally correct as they use different sender units.Cold and hot will read the same...just everything in between wont be the same althought I s'pose you get used to how it normally reads after a while.

The only difference between the 6 and 8 tacho is one resistor, not that difficult to change.

    V6 v V8 Tacho

Actually, I believe that there is one additional resistor and two re-positioned resistors.

I have a spare V8 and a spare V6 tacho, and did a comparison of the circuit boards.

    Good luck.

I would start thinking about the patch harness as well, as that seems to present the most difficulties.

i would realy like 2 do this mod aswell. but not being exactly electronically minded is this way out of my league? my biggest attempt is installing my head unit and speakers... and can u set the km's to ur originals? guessing not,or every1 would take a few thousand off.

    cheers

    Wiring loom on Ebay.

There is a wiring loom that the patch harness can be manufactured from on Ebay at the moment. They are rare, so this could be a good start for anyone interested in this modification.

Don't go too high though. I can give you a part number for a VS S2 harness that will do the job at about $80.

If you have the bits, an auto electrician can do the wiring for about $200 labour.

You will need the patch harness, the buttons (regularly on Ebay and available at Rare Spares for about $43) and the cluster.

The kilometres are locked into the trip control module in the cluster. They can be reset by an instrument expert, but the cost is greater than the cluster usually is.

Best to be patient and look for a cluster with around the right kilometres, either on Ebay or from a wrecker.

I have been very happy with the modification on my car.

    whats this part

to upgrade to a LVL3 dash would you also need this part?

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VS-Trip-Comp...80584294QQcategoryZ102357QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Trip computer LCD display.

I am considering this mod but a little unsure what changes. looking at my cluser surround which goes around air vents , trip computer etc i would need a different one of these also as the engine lights and trip meter reset button are in this part.

does any one have pictures of before and after?

Trip Computer Module part of the cluster.

That trip computer module is a replacement part.

All Level 3 Clusters come with the trip computer module built in. No need to buy it separately. Only adds to the expense. The trip computer module will not fit in a level 1 or 2 Cluster.

Best to seek a Level 3 Cluster with the correct kilometres on it.

You should not need to change the dash surround. The trip computer buttons plug into the speed alert position.

    Yes you can.

The VR shares the cluster, so you can install a VR or VS Level 3 cluster by following the process described in various threads.

VN/VP clusters will cause smoke unless you make major revisions to the wiring already in place. Best to stick to VR/VS clusters.

    Sold for scrap :(
    Hey plz help

Hey I'm in the middle of swapping over my VR Calais parts to this VR Exec as the Calais is a wreck, and I have all the wiring for the level 3 console in the Calais and the whole dash is out of the Calais, I was wondering what I would have to do to get the console and trip controls into the Exec and have it all working, what I mean is will the trip computer work don't care about the Km being right? The speed alert and fuel eco and **** like that as I thought it wasn't do’ able but after reading this thread it seems to be a job I could tackle with a lil help from you guys.

So any help would be great or photos would be heaps good I can take photos of the Calais wiring and you could point out what I need to take over to the exec.

    Thanks in advance
