hey all, my mate has a vn v6 calais with a vp engine in it and he is having a problem with it that it cuts out and runs rough when it starts to get a bit warm. on start up the car runs/idle's perfect but when the temp gets to about a 1/4 on the gauge it starts to run a bit rough and when u give it a few revs it backfires a few time then it cuts out. any help would be great, thanks in advance
lmao straight out the crank angle sensor its behind the harmonic balancer once its had its days when it becomes hot the car wont start after being driven for a while or even stall at times i had a stuffed one for ages didnt know what the problem was until i joined this forum thx guys lol, dad didnt even know of the CAS or herd of it, i just bought a second hand one fitted and installed for $70ish havent had any problems since.
the crank angle sensor is behind the harmonic balancer on the right hand side look into the engine bay, a good way to tell if that is the problem is pour cold water over it and try to start it, when it cuts out and won't start. if it starts then that is the problem if it doesn't the u should start looking else where like dfi unit, coil packs, or fuel pump, find out if it has spark and fuel..
so what exactly it look like so i can get 1 for my mate without going to the wreckers and going ''ummm that might be it, or maybe that'' and i cant run down stairs atm to have a look as i got a v8 not a v6
its on the right hand side of the harmonic balancer about level with the centre bolt but u would have to pull the balancer off to see it proply try the cold water test and make sure thats what it is.. Matt edit... yeh didnt see the post above but thats where it is, good luck
thanks heap for the help fellas and i knew the bottom big roung wheel was the harmonic balancer cos my mate tried to say it was the top little 1 like in that photo
