Hello People, Well this is my first time on here and it looks like a great forum. I have had my VR SII (3.8 Pre Eco)for 3 years and someone pulled out in front of me a year ago and I have just rebuilt the front end over a three day madness weekend and lost more skin than a jewish hospital doing it, she is now ready to start tomorrow. It is has low k's and ran beautiful before the T-Bone incident. It hasn't been started for a year although I have put a 15/16 socket on the front pulley and turned it for 10mins every week just to keep it free and removed spark plugs and put a small amount of oil in there beforehand. Any advise before I crank her over tomorrow, is there anything I should be wary of before I do a fatal? :rip: Also want to identify my plate if someone can help, see thumbnail. All help will be appreciated. Kev
what do u want to know about the plate? Also, engine... Make sure that all fluids are topped up, that the belts are in the correct order (go around the right pullies at the right point in the right direction. Keep an eye on the temperatures etc. Spray some aero-start down the heads and after its run for a little while dump some injector cleaner down the tank. Other than that just drive it to run it in, dont thrash it or give it more beans that it needs.
I got a vr bt1 if its genuine it'll have: Abs Srs Lowered 30mm with fe2 Speedo will be in 1km increments And therell be an extra light above your speedo. Ther'll also be an extra connector on the inner guard in the engine bay just behind your washer bottle for sirens and front lights. Also you'll be able to flick it down to 2nd without depressing the shifter. It'll have calais map reading lights and an lsd. I nearly forgot it'll also have a heavy duty guard over the sump and petrol tank
Also, if ya look real hard ther'll be a few small holes that'll have been patched over the radio. Oh yeh and it has speed sensitive power steering. And if its got stockers on it, they'll be 7" wide not 6". I think that's about it. If I think of anything else, I'll let ya know.
Thanks heaps VRV6BT1, Yes I can wack it into second and all else applies. That extra plug had me beat when I did the front end rebuild, but now I know what it is. A good help, thanks again. Kev
Nah, the "cop chip" (LOL) That great urban myth is the fact that you can drop her back to second and that she's got a different cam (so I'm told, no proof of the cam)
You should be able to drop it back to second yes, but the cam is the same. Engine/Power wise they are no different to any other stocker.
Cheers guys, learnt a lot from this. I see what you mean by the sump gaurd, anyone lose one off a Kenworth. I dont know if the BT1 item is like this but this thing is like 4mm thick steel. Anyway new battery is in ready to start, just letting it get a bit of sun as it was 3 degrees here last night, prob make no difference but hey, beats spend time & money on a rebuilt engine. It has been there in my face for a year and im hanging to drive it again, :driving: and hey it will get me out of a Falcon too (company car, not my bad). Wish me luck...see ya when the tanks empty...
I would also book in for a trans flush and machining brake rotors. Mine sat for 6 months or so before I got it, and the trans slipped real badly and the brakes had sticky patches on them from sitting so long.
Good call, when I stacked it a year ago funnily enough it had a full service 2 days prior. Nevertheless I will be giving it a service and now a trans flush. I was thinking of a brake upgrade so maybee this is a good time eh...
Things Went As Planned Weel tahnks to all for their advise & tips, all worked well and it started with a bit of a struggle but once it went, BEAUTIFUL. I ran it to tempreture and all went well. Ill post up more soon. Cheers to all.
