I am happy to be corrected, but can you show me where an Alloytec V6 Idle the Air Control Valve is? My understanding is it doesn't have one, as the idle up for the AC is controlled electronically via the Throttle Body. Sure the old Ecotec had IAC, but not as far as I know on the Alloytec.

Like I said, happy to be corrected and would love to see a picture of it.

that's something id want to know too before I take my car back to my mechanic with a list of things to check, how much are the coils if I need to change them each?

Alloytec doesn't have a IAC because its Electronic throttle body. Instead of the IAC valve the ECU keeps the throttle body open a certain percent.

Well I guess it could still be to do with idle and throttle body.

to test your idle air control valve change gears with ya foot on the brake , you should see a jump in revs on your taco if not its that , also check for vacuum leaks. while you at give the throttle body a good clean, it also could be as a simple spark plug lead or coil pack breaking down. good luck things like this can be a pain to work out . may be good to run ya car on premium to clean your fuel system.

so i guess IAC is thrown out then as a problem.
could the MAF sensor be responsible for this at all?

All good ideas, but the VZ no longer has an IAC

I would remove the MAF and clean it with MAF cleaner, nothing else. I would also clean the throttle body and check the purge valve, it can play up at idle, give it a tap and see if it starts clicking… But change the coils mate...
