Hey guys, I was driving down a long dirt road (that sounds like the start of a song or something ), anyway i was in second gear at about 20km/h (I had probably gone 10-15kms (about 35 minutes)) and the engine light came on. I stopped and it went off straight away... i couldn't get it to come back on. However, when checking for error codes i get the following codes... 13 - Oxygen Sensor (O2) 56 - Running Lean Under Load. So im assuming my O2 sensor has gone? If so, that would be causing the 56 error as well? Is it possible the cable has just come undone or something...? Is it work going to the wreakers or buying new from Ebay? What would holden charge? Cheers, Errol.
i wouldnt worry about it. i get a similar problem with mine, when im driving through a carpark or something at a similar speed. code 13 and 56 are related. theyre both to do with the reading from the oxygen sensor. the ecu has problem figured that its getting a lean reading from the oxy sensor (56), so maybe something is wrong with the sensor (13). it may not be used to you driving on roads like that
So maybe reset the codes and see if it occurs again? I had a look to make sure the connector hadnt been pulled out/broken and it looks ok. Very rarely drive on gravel, so considering the bumps it was going over for like 30-50 minutes probably didnt do it good. Cheers
clear the codes and check to again later to make sure all is good I live on dirt roads and i find if im on a long dirt load or im following another car on a dirt road, ill get the engine light some one. Same codes. Maybe dust getting through the air filter. Dunno
Cool, thats good then. Hopefully i dont have to replace it anytime soon (although i probably will anyway) How do you clear the codes, its just a case of starting the engine with pins 5 and 6 jumpered yeah? Cheers guys, Errol.
you do that and you will be payign a vist to the local holden dealer with a busted commodore. to re-set the codes remove negative from teh battery and count to 10. or take it to holden and get them to use a tech2 tool and clear the codes.
Dont like busted commodores... While their still faster than Fords i prefer mine working . What goes wrong if you start them with the pins jumpered? Thanks for the advice. Cheers, Errol.
I don't think its that drastic - below is from the "how to's" : <Once you are finished turn off your ignition and remove the paper clip. It is important to note not to drive the car around while have wires are bridged as this will prevent new codes from being logged.>
when was the last time the O2 sensors were changed in the time you've had the car? its telling you that the o2 sensor is faulty, and your lucky, not always does it log a fault. less likely but how long ago did you use injector cleaner or had the injectors cleaned? could be clogged injectors. as hako said, driving round with the 5-6 pins jumpered just keeps the ecu in read mode, and wont log new codes.
