VS Acclaim
Hi all,

I've just put in a second hand engine into my VS Acclaim. There is a "miss" in the engine. I've changed everything electrical. DFI, coil packs, plugs leads and the crank sensor. The auto electrician says both engine backs are firing as they should, all exhaust manifold temps are as they should be but still there is a miss? Then there is the shuddering under acceleration once reaching 80k's. Could it be torque converter or tailshaft bearings(front or rear) or I'm told it be something with the IRS?

Any help is good help please

For the miss, is it slight and random or constant and repeatable?
Check vac lines for splits and possible injectors, try your original ones if the second hand ones are unknown condition.

Shudder is normally centre bearing, but if it wasn't there before replacing the engine it could be trans mount is the wrong way, which has lead to finishing off the centre bearing. Check its condition and excess movement.

Thanks, replaced vacuum line and had old injectors cleaned and installed. Its a constant miss at idle and under acceleration.

Is it possible to fit the trans mount incorrectly?

I'd say a lead or spark plug, this could cover the mis & the shudder?

My VR sedan has a shuddering converter, been like this for 27 years that I owed it. All I do is get around the problem like drive under 80kms or over 85 kms. Yes the Problem is converter lock up issues. you might have two issues one from the converter and one from the engine itself. check the tail shaft and the center bearing for to much wobble.
I think you have a sports button on you model like our VR its on the console that disengaged the converter lock up and if so turn it off by pressing the button to see if the shudder goes away but if the convertor has failed when you give the car some power it will shudder when it feel like it.
Just noticed you have irs, check the shafts on both sides. the car must have no load on the shafts otherwise you wont see feel any play on them.
