Hey guys, I have recently bought a VR Acclaim which I intend to use as my daily, I've been told that engine has had some work done to it and was unsure of a noise it's making. On Idle it's not overly lumpy but you can tell it has an aftermaket Cam in it, the noise im not sure about, I believe is coming from the rockers, it's making a constant ticking noise which is quite noticeable on first start-up. I've given the car an oil change/filter, and the oil pressure gauge is reading good pressure, so Im stumped to what it could be. Do higher ratio rockers or performance rockers make noise? Thanks for any help you can give.
The ticking will probably be a hydraulic lifter that is sticking for whatever reason. Sometimes if you add "lifter quitener" it will help or give it another oil change it may help. If it's just a tick tick that goes away above idle then maybe you can live with it - however if it becomes a tap tap then maybe you'll need to look further as it could be a collapsed lifter.
