Engine number

Hi. Does anyone know how to tell what model commodore an engine has come from?

The number on the engine in question is VH839327.

I'm not really up on the 6 cylinders but I'd guess it's a 3.8L V6 out of a VT, probably somewhere before the change to series II, so early 1999?

Hopefully someone will be able to narrow it down more than me.
