VT prefix for a 308 VH SL/E, often WT too. As for how many numbers, 6-7

I have read for the WB:
The Commercial range had the option of the 4.2 litre engine while the statesman and Caprice only had a 5.0litre engine available.
Prefix identification is "W" for series then:
R 4.2 litre high comp engine
T 5.0 litre high comp engine

it goes on to say about the VH that:
engine numbers did not change from VB and VC models. engine identification is by the second alphabetical prefix, the first alphabetical prefix is vehicle model identification. Prefix identification is
D 4.2 litre high comp engine
L 5.0 litre high comp engine

Late towards VH's end, a few 308s came out of the factory with WT prefix.

I have read for the WB:

it goes on to say about the VH that:

D and L prefix is the inline 6s, D for 173, L for the 202.
VB-VH V8s had either had R or T. And thats fact
