2011 VE SS sedan manual
Ok guy's i know oil has sorat been covered but still have a question.
I have the 2012 L77 motor in manual form, i have a 1900 blower and small cam just making 550 at the wheels.
The engine builder i used reccomends hpr 30 from penrite just wondering if this is to thick?
I know adding the blower needs the thicker oil from what i have read in terms of the 60w but this is a 20-60 mineral changed every 5000km. Just wondering if i should drop down to hpr15 it's a 15-60 oil so just that bit thinner.
Thoughts welcome.
Thanks
Dave

i wouldnt go thicker than 10W40. These engines don't need or like thicker oil. The blower really makes no difference to the tight tolerances found inside a modern V8 and a thick oil just won't be able to get where it needs to go to totally protect your engine.
Fully synthetic is the way to go, mineral oil is old school.

I'm a 10w60 edge man in my ute cam /heads etc its not a daily.

The Girls's 09 SS with the L77 was on 10w40 and now really cold in Adelaide I just put in 5w30 edge, limited afm lifter tick now.

I'd go 10w60 with the blower adding heat.

Ok just been looking at the quotes from diff places when i got the work done and 3 of the 4 shops putwhat type oil they use.
1 uses 25-50w Lucas oil
2 uses 20-60w Penrite oil
3 uses penrite Hpr15 a 15-60w

all 3 shops are pretty well know for performance work wonder why the recommend sucha thick oil. i asked my builder he said you change every 5000kms so why use synthetic and they have found better results with the thicker on Ls motors. arrrh bloody oil

I'd go by what your engine builder recommends.
