VF SS 2015 storm
hey guys I have this strange rattle / chirp sound going on.

It happens when just idling in park and does get louder with car being in drive.

It also can be heard when going over the slightest bumps on the road.

I’ve done the water test on the belts and that did nothing I also checked all the pulleys with the screw driver tricks and all seemed ok.

You can’t really hear it to much outside just mainly when in drivers seat.

Any help would be appreciated as it’s driving me insane !!

Towards the middle of video you can really hear it.

engine mounts maybe? Have you tried putting any sideways pressure on the engine to rock it a bit whilst its off and cool? Just to see if the sound appears?

sounds like a dry bearing in the pulleys, try small squirts of wd40 , the bearings are sealed but wd40 will seap in and see if noise goes away or sound changes , dont squirt it everywhere on belts ect, just small amounts on bearing shafts, do them one at a time, repeat 3 times then start her up

I have had that with a non-commodore, it took a long time to find it.

I think you need to eliminate other potential sources of that type of noise.

If you can hear this sound with engine running and car sitting in driveway (yes?)

Then open all the doors, boot, glove box, bonnet (also try with windows up/down) and move the seat forward a notch and recline it a bit.

Do these one at a time and make sure the noise doesn't change.

If still there, then check for any aftermarket brackets in the engine bay (alarm or HID ballast electric fan)

Same noise in our VE. Took me a while but turned out to be coming from the fan. Turn fan off. Noise stopped. It was semi intermittent. The noise was coming through the vents so was hard to pin point.

Checked engine accessories etc.

I had the whole interior, dash hvac out last year and thought, well, there’s a squeak. Had to happen.

The bearing in the fan motor (mounted behind the glove box) is flogged out.
