I am looking at purchasing a ute. Bottom line is im after something with little mechanical problems. I can purchase a 2003 Ford Falcon Ute with around 100000km on the clock for $16-$18 grand. This sounds like a good deal as a decent manual 95 VS ute with 120-150 thousand km, goes from anywhere between $12-15 grand and were talkin nearly ten years difference in technology. However you can also purachse a 95 VS ute with a good body, but well over 250000km on the clock for $3-5 grand. Quite simply if i was to go with this option, is it possible to track down a brand new motor and come in under $12000? Ive done some research and all i can track down is V8's. I am however after a 6cyl, preferably an original ecotec however any reliable 6 that can be mounted will do. Is it as simple as walking into a dealership and asking them to order one in for you? Any advice appreciated as ive hit a stalling point!!!!!! and apologies if this topic as been discussed in the past.
This is the wrong place to start your thread in. 1) Was the 2003 BA Ford Falcon that you looked at was equipped with manual? 2) Have you tried sourcing elsewhere for the Holden Commodore Ute? I picked mine up for around $12K mark for Dec'98 Series III S pack manual. It has done 171Ks on the clock and was in pretty good nick. 3) I doubt it is possible to pick up a brand new ecotec motor however I could be mistaken. Rebuilding a motor would probably be more worth it rather than buying a newer engine. 4) Depending on the size of the dealer, I haven't had much luck getting bigger dealers to source me my ute due to its age that was past their band of requirements. Thus some dealers may charge you heaps if they do source one after you requested it.
mate i got my vs ute dec 96 series II for 5500 with 190 on the clock and in overall good condtion. He wanted 7 for it but you can definetly bargain down prices, another option would to purchase a reco or low k's 2nd hand ecotec, btw mods please move this thread
Holy cow! that's definitely a bargain. Purchasing a 2nd hand ecotec would also be another option and depending on k's you could get a pretty good bargain on it. I got mine transplanted and the purchased 2nd hand motor was worth $850 for either 114K or 140K (me mechanic was not sure.. lol)
yeh you often see 2nd hand ecotecs on ebay or on classifields sites, maybe even trading posts. People who have written off their cars especially rear enders are good for that as there shouldnt be any damage to the engine
engines are cheap if you shop round mate! you and a friend could transplant a low kay engine in a day, if you are really keen and mechanically inclined. ive had 2 engine changes in mine. one engine was 160k and the latest is 140k and they cost $400 each. i pulled them from damaged drivable cars, so i was able to test and see kays were genuine.
Well I'm keen but not mechanically inclined. I have workshop manuals and some very basic tools for starters. That's pretty much what I got heh.
