ok. my engine is gettin old. its a 5-6 year old motor and i'm unsure of how many k's its got cause the odometer dont work since 262*** k's{like that when i got it}. what i'm considerin, now that i have a proper job is converting it to either a VS or VT eotech S/C engine, a LS1 or L67 motor {S/C if possible}. which should i go for for best power. what will i need for swap. engine, ecu, transmission{??}. what else? and if neone knows the cost for the parts. i wont be doin this myself but gettin my uncle to do it. thx guys

do the L67 conversion mate, much easier and cheaper than trying to put an LS1 into your car. the L67 would practically drop straight in and you'd only need to sort out the tune for it to get it up and running - whereas an LS1 would be a pain, you'd need to screw around with welding k-frames and have looms customised, all sorts of stuff, not to mention the cost.
for you to get a L67 in your car up and running all you'd really need is the engine and a tuned memcal for it. you could retain everything else as is i think - unless ive forgotten about something.

L67 would be the best choice, If I'd were you I would supercharge the current buick engine, reckon that will go good aswell. LS1 conversion, go and buy a VTII SS and on, because just the engine will cost around 5K and not to mention the labour and other parts.

i was plannin on supercharging the current motor but i dont think it will be too good for it {had a hard life from what i've been told} definately goin to go L67. i've heard good things about them bein better to give forced induction. and if all i need is engine and tuned memcal thats excellent. i should be able to source them pretty easily and get it in fairly cheap. thx guys

I have done a how-to if you want to repair the odometer too.

For the L67 conversion you'll need engine, box, loom and computer. When I still had my old VS and considered this conversion I got a price of $4000 for all those parts required for the conversion. In the end I decided I was better off selling the VS and buying one already supercharged.

Look at it like this... Trade in price on my old VS was $5000 and the new L67 powered calais cost $9000... thats the $4k for the conversion right there and I didnt have to lift a finger... plus I now have all the Calais luxury hehehe.

Consider that before you do the conversion :)

hmm shaggerz has a point.....i'll have to find out what i would get on a trade in first tho. if it isnt enough i'll do the conversion. also i can get it cheaper cause i'd do it through my uncle

hey shaggerz, forgive me but why would you need the box and computer from an L67? the box is basically the same, only difference being the converter as far as i know - and is there any difference to the pcm itself? i thought you'd just get a tune to run a L67 and swap memcals.
just wondering, i dont claim to know everything and what you said made me curious.

you're right you don't need the box and computer REALLY as its the same 4l60e and the PCM is the same. You could get a tune to suit an L67 but for half the cost of a tune or less you can just buy the whole L67 computer anyway...

EDIT: and 4BDN_VR theres other things to consider too like the calais luxury features you would get and the other little bits that would make the conversion that little bit less good than a stock l67 config... for example the s/c VS calais has twin cat exhaust as standard, cai, two speed fuel pump to name a few.

lol. yeh i'd love to upgrade to a more luxury car but i've created a rather strong attachment to my car. that and the fact i dont think the trade in price of a vr exec is to good and i would still have to fork out a fair bit. which on training wages is a bit hard. so i've decided to stick with this one and do the L67 conversion. it'll only cost me about 2500 give or take. with installing. so for a few years that is gonna be my best option

Another idea you could look at is buy maniac's old engine its done a few k's but is in very good nick if he hasn't gotten rid of it yet.
