When the 5.7 litre V8 engine was introduced, the alloy block was hyped as being much lighter than the old 5 litre, and also claimed to be similar to the 3800 Ecotec.
In the vehicle specs, car weight with a Gen III is about 70 kg more than a V6.
So what else is going on? Bigger exhaust and radiator? Bigger brakes? A few kilos here and there....

Trans, radiator, bigger exhaust, bigger diff. Funnily enough though they all had the same brakes unless you fitted upgraded HSV type brakes.

I might learn something here but didn't the gen111 use the 4L60E auto? Little or no transmission weight difference?

It would have had a larger torque converter, and possibly a larger fluid capacity (maybe a cooler aswell) there's a few extra kilo's

Deuce, larger converter I understand but my 1999 VT wagon has dual trans oil coolers in the radiator and an auxiliary trans oil cooler in front of the aircon condenser so not much weight difference there you think?

Which two vehicle specs are 70kg different, and is that kerb weight (ie with fluids)?
