Hey guys, iv got a problem with my idle when i come to a stop whilst in gear. This happened with my previous transmission but a new AFM fixed that problem. Since i put the new transmission in that problem has returned. By erratic idle im talking about i come to a stop at say the lights and itll bounce from 650 to 1000 then drops to 500 and will continue to bounce untill you stall it or put it into neutral.

So far i have cleaned the AFM, intake, TB and IAC, checked all the vac lines and all the wire connections. AFter this post sometime ill be putting some gaskets between the extractors and y-piece flanges as aparently an exhaust leak could cause this. If that doesnt fix it apparently these could cause it: TPS, DFI + Coils, fuel pump. However it only came back with the new transmission. New transmission is a full rebuilt with a fair bit of upgraded goodies and a 2K stally. Its also a V6.

With 2 regos and licence coming up i cant afford to replace everything so i was wondering what you guys would think because im loosing my mind over this. Search results arnt bring up much else on this problem.

    Cheers in advance.

It may not the same problem, but I had that problem due to not having enough trans fluid.
I topped it up to the correct level and the problem was gone..

Mine did it too and I dont have to cents to rub together either. Whined your idle screw in. You can reset the base idle when you can afford to fix it right.

Ill double check the fluid again. I dropped 8L from near empty (rebuild) so ill check tomorrow. If that doesnt work ill try your idea Jonah untill i have the coin. Also found number 4 injector to have a small leak from the manifold side. But i think thats been there since forever. How far did you adjust the screw?

When I topped it up it needed a 1 litre

My idle was up and down like you have mentioned in all gears except park and neutral.

Check for vacuum leaks, check the vacuum hoses running to the vacuum reserve tank under the passenger side front guard. Also a leaking brake booster can cause vacuum leaks that can play havoc with the engine idle, sometimes this is especially noticable when the brake pedal is pressed..Also double check all the vacuum hoses around the engine bay. The purge cannister solenoid, located at the rear of the engine towards the drivers side, can cause idle problems too, but it is supposed to set a code if it stuffs up.

Iv checked all vac lines, all good there. Took the hose of the booster and it sucked a **** tonne of air in, my guess its not leaking otherwise it would have pressure like that. No error codes at all. Bumped my idle screw up, so it idles at 800 to 900 and has stopped the problem. I guess i should just work through that list slowly. New spark and fuel components as i want to do them anyway. Damn VS attitude lol. Stroke and twin turbo it. Problem solved bahaha.

Basic question, but have you tried resetting the TPS?

Disconnect the battery for 10 seconds, then reconnect and start the car and rev it just past 2000rpm for 10 seconds.

No i havent NAAF. Didnt even think too. I also have some TCC lookup issues which i belive is from the TPS, but ill be replacing that straight after rego. I never knew you could "reset/set" a TPS up, thought it was a plug and play device.

Up to the VT you can reset them, the VX on you can't as it learns on the fly for want of a better explaination. The TPS needs a base to reference, sometimes a voltage drop or even new components can throw it out so it doesn't know where closed is. Revving to 2000 rpm will reset the baseline for open and closed throttle so the ECU can control idle.

Hey you said in your first write up that you had the same problem with the last tranny and then changed trannys and had the same problem again is it possible that the leaking injector has caused the problem on both accounts?

I do believe the problem was in the box. I was towing a trailer down the highway and lost 4th gear and blew a seal as it was pissing fluid onto the exhaust. Still have reverse and 2nd, so its got me stuffed. The bastard was professionally rebuilt with just about every part upgraded to bigger and better parts to handle large amounts of power..

So i started the car today. Took it for a drive and it had al 4 gears and TC lock up.. And its not leaking anymore. My guess now is sell the hunk of **** and get something else lol. That or replace the TPS, IAC, DFI, coils, oxys and a service.
