I have a factory fitted Eurovox CD Player in my VX and was wondering if it is capable of handling a CD Changer. The reason I ask is not because I want to put a CD Changer on it but to buy an iPod interface kit. These interface kits hook up to the cd changer port on aftermarket stereos and allow you to run your iPod through your stereo while charging it. It also gives better sound quality than the FM transmitters and tape adapters.

The other option I was considering was to install an Alpine headunit with the Alpine iPod Interface (KCA-420i). The only issue I have with that is that I would lose my steering controls unless I was willing to cough up another $100 or so to buy the Stinger PESWIV kit which retains the controls using an Infrared Transmitter.

This is what the Alpine guy has said:

Alpine do not actually manufacture or sell steering wheel interfaces, however, they are available from Stinger Australia. Alpine is one of only a couple of brands with ready-made adaptors for steering wheel controls. The VT-VX to Alpine steering wheel interface is now available through all Stinger dealers, which include all Autobarn stores, all JB Hi Fi stores, all Car Audio Masters members, and most good car audio specialist stores. It is a relatively easy install which converts your steering wheel signals to infra-red signals, transmitted to your head unit through a little LED. Keep in mind, your head unit will have to be compatible with an infra-red remote to work, which includes almost all Alpine models. Im pretty sure these interfaces retail for about $120 plus fitting.
Either way I want my iPod in my car and need to weigh up the best options to do it.

The best option would be to get a fm transmitter they do have pretty good sound quality.

Another option would be just to get a mp3 deck and make mp3 CDs does defeat the purpose of the capacity, as he ipod hold heaps more

Hi tcarman!

What I am hearing as the lastest craze is fitting a standard VT double din stereo cassette unit & utilising the "CD In" 1/4 jack by running a 1/4 inch stereo lead (available for a couple of bucks at Dickies or Tandys) from your Ipod headphone jack to the CD in jack on the cassette deck.
You can find VT double din stereo cassette units on Ebay for around $15-50 bucks depending on condition!

Just an idea ;)

I'm actually in the process of getting all the parts needed for a link to the ipod to the head unit (l have a sony HU so its nice and easy for me). The reason people are opting for a cd changer link to the ipod as you can control the ipod from your head unit, plus the songs display on the screen, just as if you have a cd changer with an mp3 cd in it.
In any case, l'd advise upgrading the headunit, even IF you can hook the ipod up to it (shouldn't be too hard if your handy with a few wires and a soldering iron). A nice head unit will make better sound output and have more options, plus it'll look better.

Is there even an aux input on the Eurovox units ? I really want to find a solution, FM transmitters are NOT an option and if I replace the headunit I lose the steering controls unless I am prepared to rewire the whole mechanism. :b:

I haven't found enough detail on the PESWIX systems to justify doing it. I'm happy to keep the factory unit as it would also reduce the chance of my car being broken into. Does anyone have pictures of the rear of the Eurovox CD player out of a VX so I can at least get an idea at what I'm looking at.

Why do car manufacturers have to make it so hard to personalise your stereo ? :ranting: I'd rather a new car without a stereo, at least I have the freedom to choose.. I do love my steering controls though and I can't say I'm willing to sacrifice them yet !

They may not have AUX in, someone here will tell you that, but l know they have cd-changer input (if its the same as a calais) and you can wire up a connection to that.

ive heard not all stock headunits have a cd changer socket in the back. if the head unit has a cd player in itself then no din plug, but the ones that have no cd player built in have a din plug for cd changer

So just clarifying. I have a euro vox non cassette. Single cd player unit. Am I able to purchase the cd stacker and plug in. Or does this head unit have no connection for it. Thanks in advance

there is no connection, you'll be better off with a $100 brand name stereo in every conceivable way.

I have both units and removed them the day I bought my cars, the base one does not have the plug for the factory stacker.

Did I say 100, I meant $68

Not only that this Sony unit will sound an infinite amount of times better than the stocko.
