I’ve come across this mob in the UK that convert cars to EV.

Now, that’s not entirely new, but what gets me about this business is
• The guy running it seems to be mid 20’s
• The business is well funded. It’s an impressive workshop.
• They use a system. In that they design these set ups so nothing needs cutting. They bolt in using existing mounts and the frame is untouched.

So that gets me thinking how exciting it would be to have a bolt on EV package arrive at your house so you can get to work making a really cool car.

These are also designed to charge from regular home power supply.

Some of their really crazy stuff needs 3 phase, however most don’t.

I’m fairly sure a big part of the future of our Commodores will involve this stuff. Some kid not even born yet is going to Hot Rod a Commodore with a package like this.

GM have an electric crate motor, 1000hp and 1000ft/lb of torque.
That would be a great starting point!

Evans engineering have a 4 wheel hub motors I've been checking out since about 2005 - 2007.
I actually emailed in 2014 about buying a setup. Not for sale. Development only.

There was rumour around that Evans sold the setup to Mitsubishi.

Evans had a setup in a Lancer, was doing the quarter mile in something like 4 seconds.

Nothing was ever said about batteries .

Here is a link if your interested.

I did have a bit of a look myself at converting my SV6 to electric at some point in the future. I don’t see it as being that difficult. I reckon you could get enough batteries into the engine bay and behind the rear seats (where LPG tanks normally go) to give you a decent range. Throw some wheel hub motors on the rear wheels and a battery management system into it and away you go.

I reckon it’s doable as a DIY project.

I reckon hub motors will be the future, especially for autonomous cars.
Just have a shell with a cabin, a power pack and 4 hub motors.
No servicing required, a local EV place staffed by robots to replace failed hub motors, and everything recyclable/ refurbishable at the same shop.

There is a battery powered VB/VC commodore in Birdwood motor museum.....I reckon that conversion was done waay back when the car was new....

I saw on netflix, a show called fastest car....They had a Datsun 1200 (I think that's the model), with an EV motor....It was doing 9 or 10 second quarters with that car....

So if you have netflix, look it up....It's a rather interesting car

That is an interesting thought, to have an electric motor with turbo bolt pattern bell housing (or other common patterns) and then multiple different engine mount options so that it can be sold as a kit for many different engine replacements
