Hi, I am new to this forum and possibly some of my questions have been answered elsewhere on the forum. I have the opportunity of obtaining a V6 WK Statesmen on very favourable terms, free. ( which is why I have gone to this section of the forum). It is other than having space shuttle k's, about 500k, in good order, just needs a thorough detail, some minor interior repairs and a few scratches touched up. It has not had any serious accidents Naturally it is LPG powered which I want to keep. I will be using the car for regular 2-3 days per week return trips to the Hunter Valley from Sydney and so the high mileage will continue. (occasionally it will be towing a 1.5 tonne trailer) My questions are. 1. After a thorough safety check and replacing any obvious safety problems what order of modifications do you suggest, rechipping, new exhaust system etc.(is it possible to get up to power level of supercharged V6 without losing reliability. I am inclined to keep the motor as long as possible and then replace it with a lower mileage version ( Commwreck will replace & install for about $1200) 2. Having driven gas commodores in the past the acceleration does not seem that flash from 50-120 K's which is really where it is needed I am not particularly interested in outright top speed but rather good driveability and reliability I would prefer to keep the expenditure under $3-4k as the resale value of the car would not be that great even though it won't owe me much Suggestions Please
3.7 diff gears will make it quicker acceleration wise. And they shouldnt set you back more than a $1000 installed. Sitting on 100 your revs will be a little higher but shouldn't compromise economy. In some cases economy is better due to less labour in the engine. I wouldn't worry about an exhaust and intake as the factory ones aren't that restrictive. Aftermarket is mainly for cosmetic purposes. Give it a good all round service and leave it at that.
