2007 HSV GTS
Have landed a ex cop VT Commodore, 2000 model, series 2 Executive. Appears to be well serviced however a couple of issues someone here might be able to shed some light on.

  1. After starting cold, engine will stall sometimes becoming hard to start again, when it does start it bellows out with black smoke as if overfuelling
  2. Sometimes wont kickdown under maximum acceleration
  3. Hard acceleration off the mark is good until it reaches circa 4000rpm and looses intensity?
  4. Ticking noise (only sometimes) at idle/cold


Other than that, it would blow my VP SS Commodore off the road, pulls very well off the mark but looses momentum somehow, loads and loads of torque off the mark...

Any help is always appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey mate is it ls1 or ecotec? The v6's sort of run out of puff at about 4000 both the buicks and eco's. If it's an ls1 then it should be pulling more after 4 because they love to rev.

Edit: just saw that you said exec. So probably a v6.

When was the ast time the transmission filter and fluid was changed? That would explain the lack of a kick down.

wouldn't really, they're electronically controlled.


Do an error code check and see if anything shows up, could be a TPS issue (if it's faulty it would effect gear shifts, power output of the engine and possibly over fueling/flooding at startup)
Could also be a faulty temp sensor.
Is it a stock tune or has someone played around with it? 5L or 5.7?

If its blowing a lot of black smoke when it starts, then its either got leaking injector(s) or a leaking fuel pressure regulator thats leaking fuel into the engine via the pressure regulator vacuum hose.

Sorry to drag this up again. Have replaced the spark plugs, HT leads and did an oil filter service at the same time (obviously not the prob) but still have the issue. What would you guys suggest to do next? To recap, it's loosing power after about 3000+ RPM as if it's missing almost, pulls strong until then however. Have also added fuel injector cleaner to a very empty tank and put only $20 of 98 octane in when I introduced the injector cleaner.

sounds like she is starving for fuel,have you replaced the fuel filter or checked what brettjjj said
