GM Holden’s Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Ross McKenzie, 54, will retire early next year after an outstanding 32 year career with General Motors.

He will be replaced by another experienced marketing executive, Alan Batey, 42, who has already represented Holden’s sister brands GM Daewoo, Vauxhall and Opel.

Mr McKenzie has been Executive Director since 2000 and is one of GM Holden’s most senior managers.

He commenced his career with Holden in 1973, completed a General Motors Institute Fellowship program in 1977, was appointed Victorian Zone Manager in 1988, General Marketing Manager in 1994 and General Sales Manager in 1996. He became Director Sales and Marketing in 1998 and Executive Director Sales, Marketing and Aftersales in 2000. He has led Holden to overall market leadership in three of the past six years.

GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Denny Mooney, today congratulated Mr McKenzie on his long and distinguished career building the Holden brand in Australia.

“Ross epitomises everything which Holden represents. He has been a champion for the brand and led some of our biggest product initiatives in the past few decades,” Mr Mooney said.

“Just as importantly, Ross has been a terrific personality for the industry. He has been fiercely competitive in the marketplace over many years, never giving an inch in defending the Holden brand and he will be sorely missed.

“We are lucky to have secured Alan as his replacement and look forward to him continuing the high level of sales and marketing performance we have come to expect. Alan’s experience in the Middle East will be invaluable for us as we further develop our export presence there, as well as his intimate knowledge of the Korean-sourced product range.”

Mr Batey is currently Vice President of Commercial Operations, Sales, Marketing and Aftersales for GM Daewoo Auto & Technology based in Seoul, South Korea.

He commenced his career with Vauxhall Motors in 1979 and has held a range of international positions including European Fleet Development Director, Regional Director - Middle East Operations, Managing Director - Opel Netherlands and Executive Director Commercial Vehicles and Fleet - General Motors Europe.

Mr Batey will start with GM Holden on 1 November. Ross will continue work on special projects until the end of 2005 and will officially retire on 1 February 2006.
