Hi just wondering if i can get someones opinion on my exhuast set up on my VE ss
I have a set of sports mufflers installed and thats all.A exhuast shop reccomnded putting straight thru pipes from the cats to the mufflers and getting rid of the middle muffler.
Im only after a nice sound and not lots of extra power as it is a work ute.Would this be a good mod for extra sound or will it be best to buy the proper set up where there is a sports muffler in the middle section??

The 58023487872348751976160671544972354 existing exhausts threads didn't give you enough material?

For the cost of how cheap some full cat back systems cost brand new, and how easy they are to install, I'm not sure I could bother having someone chop the stock system to pieces hoping for the best...

i did this same mod when i first got my ss.the car felt like it lost power and the sound didnt change as much as i thought it would.save some coin and do it properly and buy a decent catback.the stock system isnt worth the mucking around with to achieve nothing.:)

I was told that changing to a decent cat back wont make a whole lot of difrence to having just the sports muffler?

Gonna assume the exhaust shop told you that...

Its true that a catback wont do too much for power (If anything it'll fiddle with the powerband alittle) but it will give you the sound you want.

Unless you want power, just stick with it. Because then you'd need headers/cats. Then you'd wanna tune it to get rid of the CEL, and then you'll just end up getting an OTR + Mafless.

    Nek minit cams/stall/diff/blower.

So yea. If you just want the sound, stay with a catback.

if your just after sound, buy a system with hotdogs in the centre pipes instead of the centre muffler.

Just doing this or just doing that is rarely the best way to go about it. Most cat backs have matching mufflers that actually compliment each other. Manufacturers will play around with different combinations to get their sound just right. Some don't, but most do. Fitting just the rears will make it louder for sure, and then changing other bits by chopping them out will make it louder again, but it won't necessarily sound "good", just louder. What you really need to do is get a full cat back with matching fronts and rears to get a better all round note.

There are a few out there that range in price. I do Manta cat backs for $1195 shipped. They are a quality exhaust that are quite a bit dearer retail, but I do them wholesale.
