Hey guys(and girls),what are the main factors in the way ur zorst sounds, when i get an upgrade,im looking for a deep beefy rumble rather then something more sporty.

cat back exhaust, tip, and mufflers play the largest part in an exhaust note. a catback system with a large tip would be sufficient if note was all you were after.

The construction of the muffler plays a part.

For a deeper rumble without the 'bark' use a centre expansion type glass packed muffler with a hotdog resonator on the rear.

A straight through glass packed muffler will give a raspier higher pitched note. Having extractors with this type of muffler tends to deepen it a bit.

think of your exhaust as a musical instrument.
A trumpet gives a high pitch note and is not capable of giving a low note because it has small diameter tubing and quite short. By extending the length of the instrument (make it longer) the air passing through it has more time to resonate and is capable of carrying a larger wave length (deeper note) Think of a tuba - it carrier an amazing length of tube and is very wide and can therefore make a very very deep tone

by widening the exhaust and effectively making it longer (extractors) you are not only reducing resistance but the extra width and length is allowing a larger wave length.
    The a 2.5" is recommended for a V6 Commodore

Ok,just incase no one has seen it yet, i do drive a V8.Im just not happy with my zorst note,i go past other VR/S's with a deep beefy V8 rumble following behind them(most of with are 8's) and i just get my mind stuck on getting the same from my car. What i have noticed is that there is space for twin exhausts under the car which im planning to make good use of

    V8, im jealous

a 3" would do wonders, probably single muffler and no rear resonator, its VERY VERY LOUD.

But a 3" mandrel bent with strait through muffler and rear resonator will sounds great and will also have minimal drone.

    twin systems are expensive.

Have a look on youtube for vids, find something that sounds good then ask what setup it is. Thats what i did

if you got irs (im guessing so with a berlina) then id say go with a twin 2 1/2" system and straight through mufflers - it'll be loud as hell, so resonators will be needed too. if you can afford it do everything at once, get some extractors and metal cats as well (good for ground clearance) so that V8 will breathe real easy and make some serious noise under throttle.

when i looked into redoing my exhaust recently (for the third time :bang:) i got quoted up for a V8 twin 2 1/2" system with metal cats and just a straight through muffler (so no resi's) and that was like $1100 fitted.
although the bloke stuffed up and even though i told him i didnt have irs and i didnt think a twin system could fit he still quoted me for that...untill i got there and he finally realised it wouldnt fit being a live axel and i got something else (twin 2 1/4 into 2 1/2" over the diff).

ive got a V6 with just a Catback, 2.5" straight through muffler and a small rear resignator buy about 1"-1.5" and the twin dumpers at the end...its farkn loud, but drones alot..

if ya want something loud and not legal go, straight though muffler in the middle and a realli small rear resginator, will sound wickd! but would have all noise no balls...

or you could have a good sounding and legal exhaust by fitting a larger resonator, keeping the noise down and getting rid of most of that awful DROOOOOOOONE
