Ok, 2 part exhaust system question.

My mate has a VZ Monaro and he's got an exhaust system on it.

It sounds bloody amazing, I absolutely love it and thus far have not heard another LS1 with a sound quite like it.

The thing that makes is sound so good is that each bank firing seems to have a very clear sound.

I THINK this will have something to do with the fact his system isn't running a kiss/x/h pipe and therefore the sounds from each bank don't "merge".

I've found a picture of a setup on a sedan that i THINK would acheive a similar effect.

    So, my question is:

    1. Since that system is running twin read mufflers instead of a twin system into one back, would this acheive the distinct sound for each bank I like? Anyone have or heard a similar system?

    2. How much would one be looking at for this. Twin 3" all the way with front dogs and twin read mufflers?

    Thanks,

That system in the picture has a kiss pipe.

To achieve the distinct crackle, you will need 4-1 tuned extractors, high flow cats and a twin system without a kiss/X pipe. A H type balance tube will still produce the crackle, but it will be louder without one.

This Monaro, it has the pipes exiting out one each side? That will give an even more crackly distinct exhaust note as pipes that are side by side will sort of cancel each other out to an extent.

Yeah, he's got pipes either side. Makes me make happy man juice in my pants every time I hear it coming up to my place. lol.

In regards to the twin rear muffler configuration depicted in the picture I posted, what would you assume that would achieve in terms of exhaust note?

    Thanks,

Muffs look like a pair of tri-flows, pretty standard fare as far as aftermarket mufflers are concerned.
They certainly do a lot for reducing exhaust note as they more than triple the effective chamber length of the muffler.

Also interesting to note is the way that system steps down after the kiss pipe

hey man, iv alwwsae found that the balance pipe makes it sound so much better but if u want that sound of it jumping around i guess just go extractors a few hotdogs for a crackle and rear mufflers to stop the drone

or even some of those noise ajusting mufflers wehre u have the remote in the cabin of the car so u can tune the sound whist driving they sound mint

That would most likely eliminate drone without quietening the exhaust down too much.

I had another look, that car has two sets of hotdogs up the front. Still a loud system, although the kiss pipe will take the edge off it too.
