New exhausts will always smell. Combination of paint, oil and what ever the fitter used to seal it. It will go away after a few days. Also, steel absorbs water when it has been sitting for a while, it will evaporate.

I thought that could be the case I knew there was no gasket But it bolted up nicely and yes the pipes had fine oil through it Thanks BTW! I fitted it myself and i there was no sign of it being sealed before?
