Anyone have an idea why my VX Commodore V6 has recently changed its exhaust note, it is not so much louder but has a four-cylinder sound on acceleration (it is running ok on six but using a little bit more fuel). So before I put it on a hoist to find out the problem has anyone had a similar issue to rule out either the muffler or cat.convertor and save me some time looking. Cheers

Sounds like a nasty cavity I recently had the same issue. Were only keeping the car registered for another 12 months so I removed the entire exhaust, welded in a new U pipe section, welded a plate over a hole in the muffler, replaces all the rubbers, slapped on a new O gasket and made the system into one piece. Here's a handy tip when aligning the exhaust make all the cuts and weld tacks while the system is on the vehicle and then remove or the final welding.

a mechanic will be able to identify on a hoist pretty quickly for you. It could be so many things it's not funny

Thanks Neddybear and for the attachments, this is the road I may take as I do most of my own work on our wagon (280000 km ).

"Mc Callahan says" I hear the circus is looking for a couple of punk clowns.
