I actually like the look, I think it kind of suits it in a way. I'll get some pics of it with the grille on too.

As for the wiring, I ran a wire from the high beam headlight switch to another relay which switches the driving lights on when the high beam is turned on.

This needs to be independently switched to be legal though, so in the middle of the headlight switch and the relay you need to have another switch. I ran the wire from the headlight switch, then to the unused demister switch on the dash (since the dash is from a sedan), and then down to the driving light relay. It's pretty easy really, once you understand how a relay works.

I've been thinking about painting the grille and headlight surrounds black, thoughts??

personally i like them silver, but its your car. if they went black, you'd have to paint all the accents black.

also whats with the masking tape on the 1/4's?

Yeah, I'll get it running properly first and then see how I feel about the grille and surrounds after that.

As for the masking... Remember how I was asking you guys how to sand out runs a couple of months ago? The tape was were just there to protect the surrounding paint a little bit when I was sanding. The last pic on the first page is pretty much how it is now though, no more runs! :D

So I got the pistons back today... And number 2 Conrod is difficult to move by hand. All the others are okay though. I soaked it in petrol for a while and tried to get it to loosen up but I didn't have much luck. Later on I lit the BBQ and sat the piston on the hot plate for a few minutes, and then it seemed to move a bit more freely.

Anybody had any experience with this? I'm a bit frustrated tbh

So, I got most of the engine back together. It ended up that no 5 piston was too tight in the end, I managed to get the others to free up.

I ended up pressing the pin back out of the piston with a jig I made that supports the small end of the rod and doesn't put any pressure on the piston at all:

It's ugly, but it did the job

There were a couple of rough patches on the very end of the pin where it sits in the piston - just enough that it wouldnt let the piston rotate on the pin. I used some 2000 grit sandpaper and some fine steel wool and managed to get it to move nicely.

After watching a few videos of people fitting semi floating pistons on youtube I decided to give it a go. I heated the small end on the side burner of the BBQ.

To fit the 12 port head, I needed to tap 4 holes and fit grub screws and I needed to drill 2 new ones in the blocks surface. If anyone wants to know how to do this, let me know and ill post some pics.

Still a few things to do like fitting new welch plugs etc
Hoping to have the motor in sometime next week
