Australian Road Rules require vehicles approaching/entering roundabout to give way to any/all vehicles already on the roundabout. If in doubt, give way to your right. As for motorists using indicators when leaving a roundabout, A.R.R. are very specific.....

118—Giving a left change of direction signal when leaving a roundabout
(1) If practicable, a driver driving in a roundabout must give a left change of direction
signal when leaving the roundabout.
Offence provision.
Note—
Left change of direction signal is defined in the dictionary.
(2) The driver must stop giving the change of direction signal as soon as the driver has
left the roundabout.

It would be damn near impossible at anytime near peak hour. Just trying to get through the roundabout with a running start is difficult

Calaber, once again it shows that driver education in Australia is a joke. The government are hell bent on making people believe that hoons and speeding are the only issues on our road. Sadly, neither of these are hardly an issue, driver education and poor policing of this education is what the problem is. Sounds like you had some pretty lucky escapes.

Wouldn't say hooning and speeding are "hardly problems", most road fatalities seem to be either 1) people driving like ********s or 2) people driving like morons - I'd call it about a 50/50 split here. The "hardly" category would be 3) people who are unlucky and get swept away in flash floods etc, or other situations beyond their control :p

i treat every round about like an intersection- give way to your right, indicate RIGHT if you are going right, indicate LEFT if you are going left- and straight ahead, no indicator, none of thie BS "first right indicator, then when half way round left indicator to go straight".... that only confuses people.

Depends. If it's a small, low roundabout where every entrance can see every other entrance, and straight is literally straight forwards, sure, no need really to indicate, but if the round about is large/unusually shaped/has obstructed vision, you should totally indicate left when you approach your exit, because people waiting to enter from the road you are exiting on won't be able to tell if you're exiting or going around. Not indicating just forces them to wait and see, and slows up traffic.

Similarly, some roundabouts are in a Y configuration, with two exits which could be considered as "straight", so how are people to know which exit you are heading to?

By the way, roundabouts are farrrrrrrr more efficient than traffic lights (esp multi-lane roundabouts), except in cases where there is very heavy traffic in across one direction, and little traffic the other, because one direction will have to wait a while to enter. For the average suburban intersection though, they are king.
