Seventies Holden also had a habit of halving the selectors in their 4 speeds as well, to much aggression when changing would quickly lead to sloppy shifters.

.
Exactly , my XU1 used to do it .

Not necessarily....The racing GT's had the rims the Op has fitted.....And for them to be homologated for use on the track, 500 road going cars (my figures might be a bit off) had to have them fitted....So he is still "period" correct in that sense and personally, they look better....Every man and his dog with a falcon from this era has 12 slots, so it's another thing to seperate his car from the rest

I thought it was 5 slots for the XW's & XY's and the 12 slots game along in later models.

I'm pretty sure the five slots were an XY feature. I remember liking the look of the 12 slots on the XW then thinking WTF when the fives appeared on the XY.

To correct some of us with poor memories even though we were mostly right in some ways, I looked up what many on the Ford forums use as a very good guide to the early girls.

http://www.aus-ford-uk.co.uk/html/wheels.html

12 slot & 5 slot on the XW.

5 slot & smooth lip Globes on the XY.

12 slot on the XA & XC. (different centre caps and such to the early 12 slots).

The Sports Road wheel available on the XA & XB.

Smooth lip Globes on the XB and the XC Cobra.

Globes with a ridge lip on the XD ESP.

With minor variations due to changes in manufacturer.
