Royal Adelaide Show, 6 September, 2008

Visitors to this year's Royal Adelaide Show will be able to share in a unique event with a special Holden Day at the Show on Saturday 6 September.

To mark the Day, motoring fans and families are being encouraged to dress up in Holden gear and participate in a group photograph to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the building of Australia's first successful mass produced car – the 48-215.

The first two hundred visitors to arrive for the photograph at the northern entrance of the Main Arena Members' stand at 10.30am will receive a free Holden showbag, including a limited edition Holden 60th anniversary collectable pin badge.

At the heart of Holden Day will be a showcase of Holden vehicles including the earliest 48-215 models (commonly known as FX) and FJ cars and utes as well as the latest models such as the SA-built, all new Holden Sportwagon.

On display from 9am on the South West mound of the Main Arena, the showcase will also feature Holden's 7 millionth vehicle, a dual fuel VE Commodore which was built last month at Elizabeth, and the locally-built US export model, the Pontiac G8 GT, both of which are on public display in South Australia for the first time. All vehicles will participate in a cavalcade from 3.20pm in Main Arena which will be immediately followed by a ute race.

GM Holden Director – Marketing, Philip Brook said the day will be South Australia's opportunity to celebrate Holden's status as a true Aussie icon.

"2008 is a huge year for Holden. We've produced our 7 millionth vehicle in the 60th anniversary year for the Holden brand and the centennial year for General Motors. It's also 30 years since we introduced Australia's favourite vehicle, the Commodore, which has been the best selling passenger vehicle for 12 years in a row.

"But we're not just looking back as our sights are firmly focused on the future, developing cars with a range of alternative fuels and technologies such as LPG, which features in the 7 millionth vehicle, a 60th anniversary dual fuel Commodore.

"We're sure visitors to the Show will enjoy the addition of Holden Day especially given Holden's strong South Australian connection."
